MSI Lightning 770 Power Question

Have a quick question that may seem somewhat obvious (been out of the high end pc scene for a number of years).

I just bought a 2560*1440 monitor and am looking to drive it with a 770, in particular the MSI Lightning. That board has two 8pin power connectors, but it ships with two seperate 6pin-to-8pin adapters (see pic from the hardocp review below):

Does mean that it can be safely used with a PSU that doesn't have two 8pin connectors? I have a 620w seasonic that has one 6pin and one 6+2pin, and really don't feel like adding a new PSU to this month's list of expensive purchases. If it's not safe to use the included 6pin to 8pin adapaters with the MSI then I'll probably look at one the evga 770s that only needs 6/8, but figured I would check before buying.
