Anyone else here having issues with ultra slow raid access on the IDE bus? This is my first raid and I think I have it set right. 2 40gb Maxtors at 133mhz.. Both on the same cable set master and raid. It just seems loading takes forever... Is it better to have them on seperate cables?

Yep! You got it!

If you use both of them on a single cable they never can be as fast as if they use a separate cable each.

By the way: I guess you are using RAID0 (Striping), cause if you use RAID1 (Mirroring) it won't be any faster than a single drive, 'cause its just redundancy.

I figured as much.. But is I put a seperate drive on each cable that means I will have to set a DVD and CDRW salve on each cable. Wont that reduce the bus frequency to 66 and 33 mhz? or does each device operate on its own freq?

Each device will operate at it's proper speed.
