I started out with a lightning that worked perfectly as advertised. I unistalled the card to compare it to another. When I reinstalled the card, I could no longer control voltage. It still functioned and clocked perfectly. I contacted msi, they had me flash a new BIOS. When that didn't work they had me rma and sent me a different card.

The new card is worse. Not only does it not allow voltage control in afterburner 2.2.3, but it will also o
Maxes out the power slider at 133% on ln2.

I've sent msi 2 emails regarding my problems with the new card and have not gotten a response.

1. Any ideas y I'm having problems?

2. Has anyone else been ignored by msi support?
 
Did they say the voltage is locked? I have read threads were MSI has not built the functionality yet into after burner to allow unlocking the voltage one time. The card you most likely got back might be refurbished.
 
used nvflash and a bios that should open these options via msi forums and i still cannot unlock volts
 
after editing the afterburner config and checking and unchecking boxes, i now have the 300% power range again but still no slider for voltage, or even the ability to monitor it
 
This may be a stupid question, but did you check the two options in AB's settings:
Unlock Voltage Control
Unlock Voltage Monitoring

A tad bitter sweet. Found a solution. Even though I had already reinstalled windows and drivers.... I decided to try installing an older nvidia driver. yup all works again. unbelievable.

IIRC only the first 5000 had the unlocked BIOS, and while you can flash the older BIOS to the newer cards I think the latest drivers are also imposing a limit. I'm not sure why nvidia feels the need to lock the cards up at this point when the AMD cards can actually function properly as enthusiast parts.

I got one of the newer lightnings and my card won't make it past 1225 mhz, thats actually less overclock than the base model 670 I had previously. I'm considering flashing the BIOS on mine and seeing if I can do anything with some voltage control.

I had a problem with an MSI GTX 560 ti 448 very similar. I did a driver update and card was crippled. Spent a long time trying to figure out a fix and I gave up and sold the card.

This is the main reason why I am enjoying a HD7950 right now. Since the 3.XX NVIDIA driver series came along NVIDIA is controlling the performance.
