I didn't plan on OCing much if at all, but BF3 has me wanting more power...

I don't game all day every day, so I like that fact that how the cpu throttles down when the power demands aren't there and I can see from CPUZ that alot ot times my cpu drops down to like 1.6GHz (reduces power and heat). But since I've been dipping into OCing here and there and testing things, my cpu doesn't do that anymore.

I've done a combination of things and I'm not sure how to get everything back to default.

I didn't really mess with any BIOS settings other than change the multiplier to 35. I changed it back to 33. I'm not seeing the cpu throttle down as it sits at 3.3Ghz... So it leaves me with this MSI Control Center program that has me kind of confused. I'm not sure if its on or off! How can I tell? Anyone have knowledge with this program? I like being able to just activate it on the fly and NOT go into the BIOS.

Also, IF I choose to OC what's the best method? Increase the multiplier? Increase clock speed? Increase both? Trying to keep it simple and modest for when I do game. Until then, I have to wait until SSDs and another GTX 570 come down in price a little more... haha

Make sure Speedstep/EIST/C1E are on and it will throttle down. Rule of thumb: don't bother with programs that OC inside of windows, they almost never work properly or save the settings to the BIOS.

OC in the BIOS and do your stress testing properly. Try bumping your multiplier up to 42x and stressing it, many 2500k will do it on stock volts. Mine would do 4500mhz on auto settings easily.

Ok. I'll stick w BIOS. The Windows based program was just so convenient...

I have no clue what I changed and how it changed, but can someone give me or show me what your default settings look like in MSI Control Center? I thought I had only changed the multi and clock just to play around with it, but apparently my voltage settings and stuff (bottom left) were also changed to accomodate the changes I made. I just want to put it all back to default and use BIOS settings. Somehow, my DRAM voltage was set to 1.6533V and my CPU voltage was set to 1.32V

1.6533V was highlighted in red so which caughy my attention so I dropped it to 1.50V but I should it be lower? There is no "auto" setting. Fortunately I set the CPU voltage to "auto" and it appears to be fine bc its hovering around 1.01 and 1.03 although I haven't seen it dip below 1.00 (i.e 0.95 like I've been reading about).

Again, I don't want any OCing, just default settings.

This is what I currently have now (settings in bottom left corner is where you make the changes):

Thanks, this worked. It in the "Green Power" settings on my MSI mb. One other question, what setting should I choose for CPU Phase Control? APS Mode or Intel SVID Mode?

I asked before I did some reading, but apparently Intel SVID Mode is better than MSI APS Mode for reducing power consumption.
