MSI branded ATI drivers - - way outdated??

In response to the stickied new Catalyst 5.5 Drivers (thanks Brent!) I started carefully looking at my current setup and realized that the "branded" drivers I got from the MSI website for my X800XL list the Catalyst Driver as waaaaay outdated compared to the current release - - v4.3 versus v5.5!!.

I uninstalled the MSI drivers, tossed on the Catalyst 5.5 and was rewarded with endless BSODs on my new SN25P.

Back to the branded MSI drivers, Catalyst Version 4.3 and hopefully less BSODs

What gives??

Are MSI and other card users doomed?

Am I just reading the Advanced options wrong?

Anyone else have success on loading the new Catalyst 5.5 to an MSI X800XL??

MSI X800XL and SN25P here, no problems with Catalyst 5.5's. I never put in any of the MSI CDs, just went straight to the 5.5's...
 
Always use the catalysts; companies like MSI do not have the time to keep updating their drivers. This is true of virtually every aftermarket video card manufacturer, not just MSI.

If ya don't mind me asking - - are you running XP or W2K and what version of the SN25P bios are you on (i.e., the fn25s01d or the recent fn25s01k)??

Thanks again . . . been tweaking this SN25P for a week now and it still feels buggy . . . want to be done and just game without crashes . . .

XP SP2... not sure on the BIOS. I just bought it a week ago so I'd imagine its the latest one, but I haven't checked if there's been an update. Whatever it is, it's stock; I haven't flashed.

Perhaps it's something other than your vid card that's causing the problems?

I'm thinking temperature might be the issue, or the new bios. Or, I need to bite the bullet, move on from W2K and buy XP . . .

Flashed back to previous bios, turned "eXtremePC" to 50ºC and re-loaded the Catalyst 5.5 drivers . . . we'll see how she does now . . .

Did you run Driver Cleaner when you uninstalled the MSI branded Cat's? I can see where not running it could cause a lot of issues here.
