MSI any good?

There is a "Holy Trinity" of motherboards...
Abit, Asus and MSI.

As a general rule, MSI is a great motherboard. Some may disagree because of their experiences. We've all had some bad experiences, if we have built enough rigs. Hell, I blew up two Abit KG7-Raid boards back in the day, but Abit remains a great company. Will your new MSI blow up? Who knows, but I give you a better chance of success than I would if you deviated from those three brands.

Have a blessed day. :D

This post was written from a MSI K7D Master L that is running on its April 2003 original install.

but at what cost? The extra $10 to have the 3 year manufacturer's warranty is worth it, imho...

And although I hate the stock hsf's they include, it gives you a backup should a fan go out in the future.

Monarch charges $15 for a 3 year warranty. Still a good deal.. :)

why pay $15 to get a 3-year 3rd party warranty when you could get the manufacturer's warranty for $10 and they throw in a free hsf?

Yeah, the difference between the cost of a PIB and an OEM usually IS $10. Still no question for me..Retail all the way. And as potroast has said...you get a free HSF unit and a cool little case badge and install guide :D

well, being that the 90nm 939's are only OEM right now, your options are kinda limited...

Yeah... I've been EXTREMELY happy with my MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU ever since I won the AMD XP 1800+ CPU from that AMD XP GiveAway they had 2 years ago @ 6am in select cities :D

They were giving away a GigaByte mobo, but I sold that one and added 20 bucks to get the KT3 Ultra-ARU with on-board RAID, etc., etc., etc. Loved it since Day 1 and still loving it to this day.

I do want to upgrade the CPU to XP 2600+, though. Should I get the OEM or Retail version? NewEgg only sells OEM for $76, I think. What heatsink/fan should I get for the Thoroughbred XP 2600+???
