hi all---new to your forums---looking for some ideas---i have tried to change the cnf. file in afterburner so i can oc my cards past the ccc limits of 775/1125---but everytime i change the unofficialoverclock file from 0 to 1 as soon as i try to oc my entire computer freezes and i have to reboot--has anyone else ran into this problem ? any input or ides would be great---ty in advance---hopefully my rig shows up in my signature--

If you leave the unofficial overclock feature alone does the card overclock at all? Are you using the newest version of Afterburner, just release a couple days ago?

I have a friend who couldn't overclock his 5870 at all and had to flash its bios to fix.

Did you try editing it as admin? Like open notepad as admin then open the file from there.

Good Luck.

if i leave it alone the cards will oc with afterburner to the ccc limits of 775/1125---but if i go to 776 it freezes everything--i have to reboot---it is the newest version of afterburner---and i think i have come to the conclusion that im gonna have to flash the bios--but im scurred ! LOL -- never flashed a vid card bios--id like too because i know these cards can oc to at least 5870 clocks if not higher---and i just tried it as administrator and no difference---

Are your 5850's the reference design? Non-reference boards won't be able to push past ccc limits because the voltages can't be changed.

yes--they are the visiontek 5850's---long body with the fan at the end---i had read that too---i still think im gonna have to resort to trying to flash the bios---just dont have any idea how to do it---and im a little nervous about it--lol

I had to flash the bios on my gigabyte gv-r587ud-1gd. It's not to difficult. Depending on what operating system you are running, there are some flashing tools that can be used through the os, but only 32-bit versions. If you are running 64-bit, your only option is to create a bootable flash drive/disk/partition and use the amd flashing tool.

Google it, there are a million guides to help you.

It's a well known problem with Afterburner and Crossfire. You have to disable ULPS in the registry to use Afterburner with Crossfire.

No need to flash your bios.

how do i disable the ulps? and should i uninstall ccc to use any of the other oc programs ?

1. use the registry editing tool - regedit from the run command

- "CTRL + F" brings up the Find tool

- Do a search for "ulps"

- Set EnableUlps to 0

2. You don't need to uninstall CCC.
