So has anyone tried to overclock past their CCC limits with this yet? Just curious what everyone is getting for their results and if the voltage control works without having to use the Asus bios.

When I try to change anything with it it goes right back down to the defaults with my 5850.

I believe you have to go in and enable this type of overclocking to break past the CCC limits. Look around in the settings.

not sure what settings to change, in afterburner I don't see anything and in CCC I enable overdrive and was able to max out there but afterburner won't hold any setting I change.

Ok I was able to turn the clocks down but not up.

You have to go into MSIAfterburner.cfg and edit a setting.

[ATIADLHAL]
EnableUnofficialOverclocking = 1

This like using AMD GPU clock tool though - no throttling down/power saving when the card is idle. You'd still have to flash your card in order to OC very far using the "official" path and/or keep PowerPlay active.

Thx for the info!

I am using 1.4 right now. So far so good. Can't reach Asus bios limited clock 1200/5600 , but somewhere near it 1000/4800. ;)

I still haven't done it on my own card yet (seeing as how I am waiting a replacement and dont want to kill my only reliable 5870) but a brave workmate had me flash his. It was a very easy process and very very painless. You can save your current bios from within GPU-Z. Flashing your 5850/5870 is a 5 min process (which includes copying the needed files to a USB Thumbdrive) and pretty much seemless. You can then use the flashed Asus bios to have Afterburner work like normal, with power saving functions at idle working. He was able to get his card stable at 950/1290 with medium fan speed.

As long as you save your current bios you can always go back if needed. I will greatly consider doing it once I get my 5870 replacement and everything is running fine.

Yup, I have done it to two of my cards but sold one of them. It is a simple process. Backed up with GPU-Z but there is also a command in ATI flash to backup as well.

I flashed mine too. Would be nicer if the MSI cards shipped with their unlocked BIOS onboard, but at least they published one.

Anyway, I've been using AB all along to tweak up my 5850 and I can't complain... it's a good tool.
