Just looking for a little advice from someone who owns a Sapphire HD 5970 OC, or any other OC 5970 that would be willing to give me a few pointers on what kind of oc I can expect to achieve and how to get there. I've already set up the MSIAfterburner.cfg with this guide:

(a) Open the MSIAfterburner.cfg with Notepad
(b) Change the "enable unofficial overclocking" Value of 0 to 1. Select "File" and select "Save as".
(c) When the "save as" window pops up select "All Files" in the "Save as type" box and save!
(d) It wil ask you to confirm the "Overwrite of the file" Select "yes".
(e) And finally, the result is that you can fully change the Voltage and Clock frequency of the Core and Ram on you Video Card.

If any other information is required, please do not hesitate to ask.

i would assume its like any other card.
push your core clock as high as it can go raise voltage a little if its not stable, then push your mem as high as it can go, then do both until you get it stable and at clock speeds you like.

Just curious, but how exactly will I know whether it is or isn't stable?

It will crash or hang or artifact... you will know when you push your OC too far

Tried it out just as you said, and somehow pilotsomething.exe became corrupt so I had to reinstall my driver. Please note I'm as new as new can be at this stuff, and thus would appreciate advice from someone with a similar GPU.
