MSI 9800 Pro hype?

For christmas i got a msi 9800 pro 128mb. i heard that there is some great ability it has to oc or something. and its a really good card. so i was wondering what is so great about this card and what i should get for it, such as oc program or special driver.
 
Most of them were R360 cores, which is the same core as the 9800XT. It gives you some more overclocking room and you can try flashing to the XT BIOS to enable some more shaders (I think that's what it is). I would think if you tried a search here (or Google for that matter) on that card you'd find some more info as I'm telling you what I've read from them threads.
 
The xt just had higher clock speed. There is a special bios for the 128mb cards. If it was a 256 card, you could do it.
 
I have (sorta) one, it was pretty good. Didn't o/c much past XT speeds which is just luck of the draw. Alot of people have had good o/c results with it. I kinda fucked it up and is at msi for repair/replacement. They are sure taking their sweet ass time btw.

I'd recemend ATi Tool, it will determine the best o/c for your card automatically. Also, depending on what version you got (green or red) you might wana consider an ATI Silencer/BGA Sinks, I had the green one and the stock cooler was a little "grindy" for my taste. Although now that my ti4200 is temping, its not THAT bad. :D

You fucked it up and they are going to warranty it for you? Should I RMA my video cards and ram that I have killed from overclocking? It was not the manufactures falt...
 
I made the mistake of jumping on that bandwagon... I got the green one with the big cooling system and I couldn't get anywhere near XT speeds (yes r360 core..)
I then got a zalman cooler with a fan and saw no difference. It was obviously an XT reject core... sold it away and got a 6800GT.. now have an x800xt.. (which I can't oc to PE with stock cooling, so i'll get an ATI silencer for it.
 
I didn't kill it from overclocking. Actually i dont really know what happened. I woke up and my NF7-S and the video card where fried. Not sure if they'll replace it or not yet. Abit replaced the NF7-S, so i figured I'd try my luck with MSI.
 
Rogue4mula Does it really matter if you cant get your X800XT to PE speeds? Its already so fast, i doubt you will even feel a differnce other than in benchmarks.
 
Did you get the red one or the green one? The green PCB ones (one I have) are already recognized by windows as a 9800XT off the bat, no need for a flash and hit XT speeds and more. The red ones are supposedly just R360 cores flashed with a pro bios.
