Hey everyone,

When I begin to install WinXP, I get a random error, usually pointing to a memory problem. I never get out of the 'blue' phase of installation. It's random, and I heard somewhere that this MSI board has some probs. Memory and HD's and PS have been used on another board just fine. BIOS is at latest version. Memory has been moved to another channel. Specs below. Anyone have any suggestions?

865PE Neo2-LS (No FireWire or RAID)
Kingson Hyper-X 512mb (one dimm) PC 3200
P4C 2.8 retail with fan
WD 120Gb 7200 8mb
Raidmax 400w PS
Lite-On 8x DVD-R

My friend had the same problem - turned out his memory was chocked full of errors -- I recommend that you visit Microsoft' website and download their bootable memory testing program - With any luck, that's your problem and you can RMA your RAM....

It's funny, but the memory has been working in a P4P800-Deluxe with normal timings just fine for the last three months. I also put it in an Asus P4s8x (the 's' is for sux) and ran it at 333mhz with Memtest86 for a while and it was fine. The memory is recommended by MSI and that's why I used it. Any other suggestions?

Perhaps try another XP cd if you have one - Mine started locking up the installation when the CD got a little overly scratched - luckily, I had an image file of it backed-up on my other HD so I was able to make a duplicate CD which works just fine --- Let us know how that goes.... and I would still recommend giving that memtest program a go on the MSI board.....

Here's some linkage:

Just put the files on a CD or floppy and reboot -- let the extended tests run and make sure that your memory passes everything.
