I have a MSI 8600GT OC and I wish to buy the Dell 3007WFP-HC LCD monitor
would this be OK to run on and if so do I need to calibrate it?
Any help will be great

it should be fine for just driving it

gaming on the other hand.... wont be so nice
edit: just looked it up to get its native res
IIRC the 8600GT has dual link DVI so it should be ok in that respect
but gaming the 8600GT is just not very strong and its not going to like running 2560x1600
realy i would look in to a 8800GTX for that res if your going to do any gaming at all

Yeah, thats a good card but with such a high resolution monitor i would have to go with ATLEAST the 8800GTS 640MB... and at Best the 8800GTX or Ultra.

If you do game on it Play your games in the lowest res you can and make shure you use the Highest Hz for your display along with having your display Driver installed for your monitor! Also adjust your 3d setting for card using the most demanding game you have and Turn off vsync and tripple buffer...

.That monitor can handle more than the card can dish out....so make shure your card is tuned to play games at lower res like 1024x768 or somthing like that....even though its the GT it still has new shader technology and will not be all that bad ,it will look good and still is able to game at mid level .Make shure you use the driver for your Display and install the XP or Vista(158.18 or 158.19 or 158.22 )driver from Nvidia for your 8600Gt as well....

I have a GTS8600 and GTS8800 and my Buddy next door has aGT8600 wich he watches numerouse Dvd's on ,he uses a22"widescreen with no problem and just tweaks his game settings ...His native res is 1680x1250 i believe and hes happy..when he Games he does run all his games in 1024x768 @ 70 or 75Hz and it looks pretty darn good ...If you were able to exchange the card for a 8600GTS or 7950 id say do it ,,But if you have what you have, it will still fair pretty good..

now that youve read this i jus tlooked up that Dell and forgot ,I dont think you can change the res on it !!! I know youll be able to do video and most apps but to game if it is to be set at the Native res and cant be lowered, That can be a problem.. When you get the monitor if it lets you lower your res you should be fine if not you gonna need a bigger gun like Russion said!!!!! If it was me Id be getting a bigger Gun

"""""""""""""It has a Preset Res of 1280x800 from factory and 2560x1600 is the optimal"""""""""""""""""Keep in mind its like runnig two monitors huge

thats not going to work with an LCD if you run lower then native it looks like ass also DVI = 60Hz locked

rodger that didnt think about the 60hz fixed bit ..im on Dvi at 75Hz but i own a Viewsonic widescreen

75hz will work at lower res were theres more bandwith for that but not at the res of that 30" monster

Yeah i went and checked the Dell site ...Youll have to fine tune your card in the Nv control panel and just see what it does...Im pretty shure it will look good ,your just gonna have to play around and find what works best...

Just take your time and go over each setting in control panel one at a time and see if it improves or gets better or worse..Start by no Vsync and No Tripple Buffer...will give ya lil more fps or speed ..Just remember your card will only Run how you tell it to...So make shure you turn your settings up or on In Control panel I always use (High Performance)then turn on or off other settings as needed with the Anisotropic Filtering ,, Antialiasing Filtering ,, Trilinear filtering and so on...

Ive tested the 8600Gt and GTS and Know the settings inside out ...Ive replaced a 7950 with a 8600Gts cuz It gave better picture Q and video playback , I even played several games with both and the cards do more than what we expect actually....Ive noticed Both GT and GTS like to have the filters and AA / AF turned on ...Thats why the card has a seperate shader clock so you can use it!

Oh by the way if you do need more Power for that new Proton generator ,,,Those 8800's are the best in the Field and prices well if ya look around are pretty darn good, id grab one and use the 8600 for a spare if thats a worst case .....I just picked one up last week and put my 8600GTS into my 939rig ..what a huge differance over the 6800ultra it had ...I wasnt plannig to get a high end card untill August,, been waiting for 8900 or sumthing,, but the low price bug bit me...

Yes. I am also waiting for the 8900 series to come out and just bear with the 8600GT, I also noticed that the Guru3d.com used it in his review of the 8600gt with the Dell 30 inch monitor that wasn't a bad result

I found out on the MSI site, that it supports up to 2048 X 1536 at 85 Hz ...

That is for the RAMDAC sending out an analogue signal. It is irrelevant to your situation as the Dell 3007WFP-HC doesn't have a VGA input.

The tech specs at nVidia are a better guide to what the 8x00 cards are capable of (assuming the AIC maker hasn't bollocks something up :).

Edit: I just noticed that GPUReview has changed the way they list HDCP support. As HDCP support on the 8600GT is optional, it seems that all the manufacturers that have added HDCP to the 8600GTs have done single link support only (GeForce-8600-GT-card-513). I.e. if you have any interests in using the 30" for viewing protected content from BluRay/HD-DVD you'll be limited to 1280x800/720 -- no 1920x1200/1080 (unless you are naughty and use a HW or SW HDCP stripper).

My card is the Overclock one would that make a difference if it had HDCP support
instead of optional support?
thank you for your help. I will try and do that

did you just say 8600GTS is high end? Wait... was my 7600GT high end at one time too? Oh, I remember, the 128-bit part screwed me. I wouldn't touch an 8600GTS unless someone gave it to me for 50 bucks, haha. but that's just IMHO
