ok.. I bought 2 MSI 7970s back in Jan. One of them had to be rma'd because it was artifacting. I was told it would take 1 to 2 weeks well.. They received the videocard on the 16th it's now the 2n of March. I can't get an answer from the Rma department the phone rings and rings then I get to leave a voicemail so they can never return my phone call. I have sent emails with no response... I also filled out the online customer support form.. this is what I got.

Online Customer Support form I filled out:

I wanted to check the status of my RMA. I understand I can check the status online and I know there is a direct number but no one answers it and My ups tracking shows that MSI received my shipment on the 16th.. the only email I have received was an to let know it's in processing on the 21st.

Update:
I finally recieved the response below today on the 5th informing me that they don't have an MSI 7970 instock to replace mine. Almost 3 weeks later..... I'm not accepting $480 for my card because I sepnt $680 on my card.

Msi's email..
We apologize for any inconvenience, but we are currently out of stock of suitable or comparable replacements for your unit(s). In this case we will need to provide you with a refund based on the market value of $480.00. Will you accept this refund

$480??? where do they come up with this "market value" figure?

Is this USD? I paid $530 for my MSI reference new, how come you paid $680?

You could tell them to hold onto the broken one till one comes in and go get another one to tie you over. Then when you get the RMA one back you could sell it? IDuno, just an idea:confused:

Can you go higher up and speak with someone else on the phone? Market value could not have gone down that much in 2 months.

I think you should do what EquaLiZr suggested and speak to someone higher up on the chain. When you talk to that person ask him to find you any place where you can buy a new (or even refurb since the warranty says they don't have to give you a new one) 7970 for $480. When he throws his hands up in the air and says he can't, tell him you want fair market value. I'd say that's at least $550 because prices are still rock solid.

Good luck, the lack of responsiveness on MSI's part would get on my nerves too.

Had the same thing happen to me with an MSI Lightning 6970. I replied politely to their first "refund" email and asked for a FULL refund and they gave it to me. Although, in your case $680 seems quite steep for a 7970. You might get $550.

Things like this are a good example that you shouldn't buy cards but the warranty and customer service that comes with them.

Just wondering where did you buy it for $680? I have owned MSI cards and I've RMA'd some of them. When my 4870 was OOS they told me they'll just give me a refund too but I told them I'll just wait since I still had an 8800GTS back then. And like others have suggested, talk to someone higher up the chain.

I bought it from http://www.excaliberpc.com/
I was just one of those idiots that pay more than what the product is worth at around launch I am going to be realistic I'm hopping to get $550 I just felt $480 was ridiculous.. I will try to contact someone tomorrow.
