MSI 6970 Lightning Crossfire temps

Anyone here have a pair of these in crossfire? I understand that the card in slot one will have higher temps in both idle and load for various reasons. Idles at a faster clock rate than card 2, less ideal air flow scenario than card 2, etc. I have card 2 in pci-e slot 3 to give more breathing room to card one, but still have a 15 degree difference between the cards.

At load, the difference is much smaller obviously, about 5-7 degrees. Both cards seem to stay under 80c while gaming, i know that's perfectly fine. Furmark will get them in the low 80's. I forgot to record exact temps last night when I set it up, but was just wondering what other people were getting?
 
I don't have those cards but those temps sound perfectly fine to me.
 
Agree with samuelmorris. My 6950s in Crossfire run about - 1st card 75C - Second card 79C - Max in Furmark. Just gaming; 70C or less on both.
 
All is well, also card 2 will typically run hotter as it runs at 500mhz on the desktop whereas card one will run at 250mhz or will disable itself when not needed. I would make a more aggressive fan profile for when your cards are running idle. E.G. add 10% more fan speed when they are idle. Even near 100% the fans on the lightning series cards are near silent compared to case fans.
 
According to the applications I've used, with my HD6970s the second GPU is 250mhz even at the desktop (assuming it is not switched off entirely). I thought the 500mhz issue was resolved a while back?

could be because I'm using eyefinity.with crossfire. Or it could be because my browser is open.

checked now in afterburner GPU1 is 250 GPU 2 is at 500, there is a 5 degree difference between gpu 1 and 2 where gpu 2 runs 5 degree hotter.
 
Ah, multiple monitors caps it at 500, yes. It's 250 for me because I use a single display on this PC, the other monitor is hooked up to a separate system.
 
I swapped my cards with each other, and my overall temps are much better, funny how that works :\ Idle and load temps are both down, load temps being much closer to each other now. After finishing a run of Heaven DX11 both cards ended up in the upper 60's. I had almost kicked myself for getting the Lightning's over the DCII's before this D:
 
I have two of these cards as well and see similar temps to you. I was pushing into the 80's, but then I swapped out my clear side-panel on the 600T for the mesh one and added 4x 120mm scythe fans and now they run no more than 65C at full load. Gotta love cool air!
 
Side fans make an amazing difference. They can easily cut 30 celsius off your chipset temps in many cases.
 
My cards running pretty good. Top card idles in the low 50's. Bottom card idles in the high 40's. When playing games the top card gets into the low 80's and the bottom card in the mid 70's. Furmark makes the top card hit mid 80's and the bottom is high 70's. I was hoping they'd be cooler but they are stable. Top card runs about 4-9 degrees hotter than when I was running a single card.
 
I didn't like idling in the 50's either, so I adjusted the fan curve using MSI afterburner, by default these cards are made to be quiet, but I prefer cool.

guys is there a way to save your custom fan curve? The default fan curves takes me into the 80's. which should be fine, but in BF3 I am getting green flashes...

Anyone know how to save custom fan curves without having to open after burner everytime.

my cards both idle at 37c (when i'm not using eyefinity, therefore both cards running at the same idle speed, 250mhz). I do have a HAF case with the large 220mm side case fan pushing air on them though.

Yeah. That makes a big difference. Also top exhaust is good too. I've always considered the biggest negative of my Lian Li PC-V1010 was the fact it has no top exhaust fans. I've been tempted to cut wholes and put two Noctua 140mm fans in the top of the case. Even when I have the side panels off my case the video cards run 4-6 degrees cooler. My case has good airflow but two 6970's and a i7 920 @ 3.7GHz generate a lot of heat. I have a single space between the cards and I've considered adding a PCI exhaust fan between the cards to exhaust rising heat to keep the top card cooler but I'm concerned that it will restrict airflow more than it helps it. I've also considered cutting into my case window and adding a 140mm Noctua fan there to blow directly on the cards. I'm just a little worried about ruining the case by cutting it.
 
I have two slots inbetween mine which also makes a huge difference, as I almost had a heart attack when I saw my temps when I zero slots inbetween during my initial setup D:
 
Anyone know how to save custom fan curves? Without having to keep trixx/afterburner running
