mSATA SSD vs SSD

Hello i have an MSI GE70 laptop and unfortunately has only 1 slot for sata hd.

My options are to either A)- add 128gb mSATA SSD and leave the hd that was included as storage.

B)- remove the drive and add 128gb SSD as my only drive ( using my external hd as storage )


I have never used mSATA SSD and was wondering if anyone had feedback on performance issues or if they are as fast as normal ssd's. I've been checking on newegg and ncix and i see there is not many options available for mSATA SSD's. Will i notice any performance differences from mSATA SSD and regular ssd?
 
You won't notice a difference in day to day use. Certain benchmarks will show you a difference in performance.
 
I setup a 128gb ssd (plextor m5m) recently in a gigabyte brix (intel nuc clone), and was pleasantly surprised at how fast it was. I'd say it's unlikely you'd notice in day to day use.
 
I don't believe the mSATA form factor itself introduces any performance penalties (someone correct me if I'm wrong) its simply the case that the controllers predominately used with mSATA drives are generally the slower brands.
