MS Proxy at work

Problem, our network at work runs MS Proxy, and access to the internet is limited. Internet Explorer works, but not much else, including F@H. HOWEVER, my computer at work is different, I've changed something (don't know what) and I can access F@H, use FTP, use MSN Messenger.

How can this be? If I can't set the other machines up the same, can I use MINE as a proxy for the other clients to use.

the f@h client can do proxies so just use the proxy

just run with -config and when it says use ie settings say no and set it up unconditionally

If that doesn't work, there are ways to tunnel a program like F@H through port 80 so it works over a proxy. I had to do that when I ran G@H at my school, but if it works, the proxy setup in F@H is a much better route.

P.S. Make sure you have permission to run F@H.

the proxy works on my own pc, but not on any other. Strange. Will see if I can break it tomorrow ;)

If it is an ISA server, there will be a share on the server called "mspclnt" inside will be an .exe to install the Microsoft Firewall Client.

This should take care of your problem

I thought it was that, so I've tried it. Maybe that computer needs a reboot. Will let you know :)

Ah, no, my computer has downloaded the work units but not returned them. Stupid proxy. I wonder if I can access router directly...

It seems to return the units when I run it as a console, but not as a service.

It's given up altogether now. I hasn't uploaded the last 3 completed work units and won't download anymore. I think it's time to reboot the server. I hate doing that, everyone in the office will have to sit on their bums for 15 minutes while the server starts back up :(
Best do it at lunch.

Ah ha!
Found the problem

FAH is connecting to 171.67.89.151:8080 to upload units, but 8080 is our proxy port number, so it won't upload.

There is no cure for this. Luckily I have access to the servers. I've created an Allow All Protocol on the ISA Proxy server.
Never mind, there's no need for the server to be locked down that much.

Or should I enable Basic Authentication instead?

If you're in control of the ISA Server, can't you just allow all of the communications to the range of IP addresses that Stanford uses for their servers and keep everything else as is? I've never actually used ISA Server before so I'm just assuming you can do that.

I know NOTHING about the ISA server, I just know where it is ;)
All i need to do now is remotely install F@H as services on the machines at work :D
Shhh!!!
