MPEG2 re-rendering?

I currently have a Hauppauge 150MCE card that I got two days ago. The card does hardware encoding but when I went to burn a show to a DVD using DVD Architect 3.0 (part of Sony Vegas Video), the software decided that it needed to re-render the clip again. Why does this happen, is it normal for this to happen or am I doing something wrong?

Currently using:
- SageTV (15-day trial)
- Hauppauge 150MCE
- XP PRO SP2
- 9800pro
- Sempron 3100+

depends on what quality setting you are recording at and the software itself. some apps alway re-render. Some apps won't re-render if you record at a DVD standard. I am not familiar with that DVD app. If yuou set Sage to record at one of the qualities tagged "DVD" you shouldn't have to re-render. I usaully do just to compress some.

Wouldn't re-compressing a compressed MPEG2 file lose quality? If so, how much?

I set it to record at Highest quality, is there a visable difference between "DVD Standard" and "DVD Long PLay" or some other not-so-high quality?

As most of you can tell, this is my first time dealing with PVR.

yes, you would lose some quality, but I haven't noticed much difference. of course, I only burn animated stuff to DVD, so it is harder to tell. I beleive there is a visible difference in the DVD qualities, but you should try it. sometimes it is all in your head or it depends on the TV you are watching it on.

It might just be the audio channels... DVD architect seems to be finicky about that even with clips I prepare with Vegas to the DVD standard. Or maybe it has to break a large file into chapters.
