I took a hunk off a post in the MPC forum: (posted on the 2nd)

Note: we've now lost a spot and are fourth. You guys want that? Of course not. Don't get comfy, the boat is leaking. Start shoring the leaks. Right the ship.

So get those plans final, get them made, get them in hand and running...get them folding. We should not have members dropping at all. There's no reason. But us planing to replace folders, should find it feasible or not and just get something folding. Those out there not folding, are asking questions how to build. Help them, get THEM running, get THEM folding. They're in Help Me Build/Buy right now.

What was once 1.8 years to surpass, is now 20 years.

"The enemy who forces you to retreat is himself afraid of you"

The [H]orde can now see this and start rejoicing.

This is looking better

Also their trend line is down on the graphs they have on page (link above)

I don't like the sound of that, its a bluff.

Someone post that guy from star wars its a trap-too lazy.

Most of the teams have the same downward trend. I took a glance at all the major producers earlier today. It's probably a combination of new beta client releases and low-point WUs being submitted. I'm also still experiencing server issues and no doubt others are.

MPC is still ~50k PPD ahead which hasn't changed all that much since the past weekend.

all of us have had a pretty large downward trend....however, if you look at their user info, they had a large upward user increase in the middle of January, and another one seemingly starting, which is helping pad the low point non-SMP units coming through (I've lost about 400 PPD on 3 clients because of this). On the other hand, our user increase, has pretty much been about the norm. Taking into account their average PPD per active user is about 1000, while ours is about 750, we likely got hit a lot harder than they have with the new low point WUs

edit: overall, I don't think we should be worrying too much. we just need to continue doing what we have been. pushing for new users, upgrading and overclocking where we can. we know we have the power to hold off challengers, we just need to be calm about it :)

Good observations you made there. Also taking into account FLECOM's dilemma because he runs the standard client almost exclusively. I don't possess actual information, but I figure MPC's highest producers (ota_trader, mjacoby2) must run a mix of client types since their relative output doesn't appear to have dropped anywhere near the same degree.

I'm definitely very calm. MPC have 'plateaued' in this current phase of their campaign. Meaning, pending or barring another major push, they will require at least decade at their current production level to overtake us. I have run a few projections involving scenarios of successful campaigns in which they manage to recruit a large number of users via new ads in their magazine, forum recruits etc., but even in the worst case scenario, I don't see them overtaking us for at least another 4-5 years. And, this all assumes our production remains where it is. There is no concern IMO.

It's a tough battle. To compete in the Folding arena, you have to be [H]ard. But if you're [H]ard, that makes you one of the [H]orde, so you're one of us, not competing with us. It's a horrible conundrum. Clearly the only logical solution is to change your team number to 33. ;)

Some one should post that over in the MPC forums :p

I tried to set my team # to 33 but I got an error " team 33 is nolonger the hard team please set you team to #11108" :)

Haha.....I like it. But team33 is so much easier to remember than team 110864209. Recruit 10 people to our team and you get a cookie :p We will even set you up with a cool folding badge like the one seen below.

Luckily I only lost 2 hours on Sunday when my son closed my folding client and I had to d/l the newest beta. Hopefully the people with lots of borgs can get to them and update.

Yes, hopefully. Another thing that escaped my mind and many other's is the PS3 situation. I'm convinced that also contributed negatively to production across the board. Things are slowly being resolved there too.

Besides, the number 33 is a master number numerologically speaking. For those esoterically or symbolically inclined, it denotes the Master Teacher:

"These individuals has transcended their own desires and usually devote their lives to the spiritual enlightenment of mankind. These unique individuals are often characterized by their sincere devotion to humanity. 33 individuals are extremely rare."

It's also a pretty awesome song by the Smashing Pumpkins and the sum of the first 4 positive factorials (1! + 2! + 3! + 4!), so what's not to like about that

Actually, that post was the result of a slight misinterpretation of our overtake figures. We used to have only two teams on there constantly..now we have (or had, haven't checked the stats lately :D ) all three of the teams in front of us on our overtake list...so look for us!!...in about 20.1 years :p

Actually, there is one way you can drastically reduce the amount of time to overtake us - team amalgamation. I don't know if that's still possible, but years ago Stanford permitted teams to combine their production totals in the process of forming a new team. Understandably, I'm sure this isn't a viable option but it has happened a few times in the past, IIRC.

In other words, can we assimilate other teams under the [H]orde unbrella ??? You're giving us evil ideas :D

Good question, unless my memory is failing me, Stanford may no longer permit this. Someone else will have a much better idea than I. The last time I remember teams combining was around the 2002 time frame. Maybe there were other amalgamations after this, I wouldn't know.

It's an interesting idea, but I doubt any of the teams in the top 10 would wish to combine with other teams similarly positioned. Once a team achieves a solid place in the honored top 10, their identity is so firmly entrenched among its constituents, the possibility of having that identity diluted or altered in such a fundamental manner would begrieve most, I'd wager. IAC, I don't favor it myself preferring to accomplish things the [H]ard way.
