Well I dont knwo where this speciffically goes so:

I have an Archos Jukebox Studio 10, and its be getting worse and worse on better and better batteries. 2200 NIMH from 1600's. Im down to about 30 minutes on a full charge. So to say the least im pissed off and i want a new MP3 player

I was going to keep this MP3 player for data transfer and get a Mini Ipod when bat life was +/- 1 hour but I just cant do this anymore.

Now im just looking to toss this POS and get a new MP3/data transfer device. Firend has a 15 gb Ipod that I love? Good or bad. I have right around 300 bucks to spend so dont make any statments over that. Whats the best for size/bat life/weight/durabilty. My archos is a tank.

BTW i do a lot of running with it so lighter the better
 
In stock condition, the iPod isn't very durable. Use any one of the custom carrying cases that are available for the iPods, and the iPod would be a little more desirable.

Overall, the iPod does well in terms of battery life (per charge), size, and weight. I like the user interface overall, but understand that it's a personal kind of thing. I assume you've played around with one before?

Also, do consider the iRiver iHP series. They have comparable size, weight, and battery life specs, but they are a little more durable, cheaper, and in my opinion, pretty nice overall.

Hmm, I see your plight. At 20 and 40 GB, the prices are comparable, but in your budget, maybe not.

You may also want to consider the Creative Nomad Zen series. They are bigger and heavier, but the prices are more reasonable. Since you're concerned about size and weight considerations, I would definitely play with one in person before buying.
 
I think im going to get an Ipod and now im getting sick... Mini or normal Ipod?!?!?!?!? UGH

Not sure where you've been looking, but there's a sale on newegg right now: 20 gig iRiver ihp-120 for $339.
 
No im kinda set on an Ipod I like the design.
I think im going to get a mini Ipod because it is smaller/lighter and my puters are netwr0k3d and I dont do too much transfer to other puters, and If i do ill find a way to use my Archos. Maybe make a car battery hook up and carry that around.

EDIT: ORdering tonight... mind if we take a pole?

Blue or Silver/Titanium mini Ipod?

My second generations battery life is still the same (as far as I can tell) as when I first bought it. However, my friend bought a 30gb third generation, and it's battery life has been dropping to the around 6 hours it is now. It is still under warranty (best buy extended I think), and he is going to try to exchange it for a 40gb since they don't have 30gbs anymore.
 
dude have some patience and wait for an ipod mini. personally, i think mini>orginal. because 4 gigs is more than enough (with usb 2.0 transfers, frequent upload isnt a problem) and its much more compact than the orginal bulky pod.
 
iPod does usb 2.0 transfers, and this isnt that bulky

I love it.. man imported all files to itunes... plugged my iPod in

and i said wtf it says dont remove.. look up at itunes...
ANY SONG IN/NOT IN YOUR LIBRARY automatically gets put/deleted on your iPod.... no clicking and dragging. So easy

Also now with the 15 gig i can toss my archos for data trasfers also

My brother has been waiting for more than a month to get an Mini in the DC area (he isn't in much of a hurry). I think I read an article about there being a shortage of the mini harddrives for a little while.

Also, 4gb is not more than enough for everyone. Even with 20gb I don't have all my music, and I don't carry my computer around with me, so I have no way to update it some times.

Agreed, but not on the battery life. iHP's use lithium polymer batteries, and iPods use lithium ions. What does this mean? The iHP gets twice the battery life between recharges, and also twice the battery lifespan in the long-term. I use my iHP daily, and charge it on average once a week. Highly recommended over iPod. Also, the LCD remote is more than worth its weight in gold.

you know i love [H]ardforum, but im going to stop recommending things outta the price range of the budget. I had to push to go from $250(mini iPod) to get to $300(iPod) Thats it.

If you were extremly poor no money at all. And I gave you $300 bucks, you cant weseal $350 worth of food, not in America at least. I understnad that in other countries, you can barter with the clerk/salesperson for a lower price. I had $300 not $350.

I cant be happer, I love my iPod.

Another thing, i was offered the apple care service but my mom was like "uhh no." So I asked her why and she was like.... honest to god ppl that rnt l337 have the best view points on technology..she was like "Next Easter ill just buy you the next best thing out" I guess the moral to learn is you cant stay on top with limited funds, mise well settle for waht you can get.

I mean this iPod is 200% better than my Archos just having it one day. Lasts longer... only half battery left and i listened to it all day.(morning/between classes/played solitare during mass/conditioning class)

Archos was gone before the morning.

Based on my experience with iPods (1st and 2nd gen, both down to half-hour battery life) I would say next Easter might be the date you need to get a new one. Usually they last longer than that, both of mine came closer to 2 years than 1 . . . but for longevity something with a lithium polymer batter just doesn't cut it.

Also, the Apple customer service was a nightmare, just a heads up. After all the research I did on them dropping the price to change the battery from 250 US to 99 US, they still wanted to charge me 250. Every 20 minutes or so they try to direct you to another line due to some restriction, and when I finally did send my iPod with all the cable and adapter to Apple, complete with an inventory of the contents of the package, they sent back a refurbished one and kept my cable and adapter. Another few weeks of hassling with Apple support and I got my accessories back. iPod buyers beware.

You know, if money is so tight that he won't consider the possibility of paying $50 more for something a little better, maybe he shouldn't be buying that MP3 player. I figured that he was financially secure enough to be a little more flexible...
 
I am finantually secure but im 15. THings on the list

Just paid $450 for Cobra SSi irons
$600 Viking pool stick
$100 set aside for HL2/D3
$5,000 needed for my Porsche 944 i gotta pay for

and eh wanna take a wild guess waht insurance is for a 16 year old to drive a porsche :(

Its not htat i dont have the money, I just didnt wanna shell any more of my money for it.

I figured that he was financially secure enough to be a little more flexible...

and i dont think thats fair. I am financially secure but when you replace things every year, its pointless to buy the "best" and like i said before i really like this thing. Never used the iHP. Only grip is Apple made it :eek:
