hey i am trying to pick an mp3 player i'm picking between apple ipod's or creative jukeox zen xtra

... i heard the xtra is really bukly and i'd rather not have somthing REALLY bukly but i've had two problems with the ipod (two ipods) but they were older models (the one with the play forward/reverse etc. on the top not on the wheel) ... but i also heard ipod's got better in quality

Also for ipods what is the newest 2nd newest etc.... i wouldn't need a video ipod and i don't know witch one that is and i'm all confused witch generations and types are what pricves.

if you guys can suggest stuff and maybe help me out with witch ipod's are what prices (don't need the video one) then that'd be great.

How much music do you plan on putting on it. What kind of activities will you be doing with it. I have a 4GB Ipod Nano with a orange core case on it, i love it. It has flash storage so its not going to skip while im running or bumping the thing around. The larger models have mini HDDs in them and are easily damaged from rough handling.

well at the moemnt i'm not sure how muich music i have but a 4GB ipod nano would probably break easy with me and also it seems a lot of money for just 4 GB.

So far my nano has not failed and i use it in an extremely abusive environment at work. If you get a nano definetaly get a good case for it. My case is all scrathed up but my nano still looks new when i take it out.

yea but it just seems like so little GB for 200-250 and i'd be afraid to drop it.

50 CDs fills about 4GB of space. The Nano is slick, but there's only a $50 gap between the top Nano and the regular iPod. There's also quite the used market for iPods - a lot of people are trading in their Minis for Nanos.

what's the price of a 30-GB Ipod non-video i know that 300$ at the aple site is a lot but i heard that you can get 30GB Ipod non-video for less? or am i wrong???

Its worse to drop a normal ipod than the nano. Bang the ipod when its trying to read just wrong and your a bit fuct. Nano? as long as you dont break it in half should work due to solid state.

I dislike all ipods however

My sister has an iPod video. I don't like:

-the wheel. I need tactile feedback. Audible isn't enough.
-Converting songs to whatever format it uses. I OGG.
-Database only, no file-tree structure.

I have an iRiver H340. It kicks ass. :)

why do you dislike all ipods worminator?
Marketing
Features

As an example, when i was in market for my second mp3 player (had original archos juke box from first run, hd died) about a year ago, i wanted a flash player I could work out with that was small. My options: Muvo n200 and Ipod Shuffle at the same price point.

The n200 had replaceable battery (15+ hours on 1 triple a, better then rechargeable imo, specially for trips), radio, line in for encoding mp3s, backlit screen, voice recorder (record lectures every once in a while, poor college student), and didn't force me to use iTunes. All of these features the Shuffled lacked at the same price and size point.

Why buy 500 dollar ipod when you can buy a better competing product for same or less money? (and i don't like the "oooh ipod shiny" factor either)1

Get the ipod nano, I have one, and it's FUCTED UP.....and it works great even though it's ugly as heck... I abuse that thing..... from spilling goof-off on it and made it melt, to dropping it in water, dropping it on the ground, sitting/stepping on it.... and it's still going today. :D I even popped it open just to look at it.

yea but the 4 gig nano is 250 dollars for FOUR gigs... idk :-/

check out the sandisk and samsung solid state players, iirc they are a little cheaper. But if you are going to be useing the player in a high shock setting, solid state is worth the money.

i wish i could get a 4-6 flash based but allt he ones that are like that are like 180+ maybe i'm just a cheap mofo lol

Really depends on how important it is to you.

I went for a big hard drive with the features I wanted because I was driving several days a week at that time and I hated being limited to what was on the radio. :) (truck, no tape/CD player)

I have decided on an apple ipod or a creative zen

what i need is (1) goood battery life.. i'm taking bus rides from pa to illilnois and up to canada etc. etc. so i need it to be able to last bus rides inbetween charges ...

asl well i need (2) it not to break or hard drive problems (i hate those lol)

thir is style i guess

ideas?

im' not sure the types of ipods or creagive zens besides ipod/nano and creative zen touch but what are your thoughts...

Heh, I'm waiting for one of THESE babies.

Fake, but it gets the idea across.

(Disclaimer: I've seen it before, but the linky may not work as my work filter blocks that site so I can't confirm it right now)

thats an insane concept.

It's not just a concept (well those pictures are :) ) - it appears to be the way Apple is heading and for quite some time. Hence their hesitation to call the last iPod with video a true Video iPod. And the blurb attributed to an analyst that even made it out to CNN that the 60gb iPod was now "at-risk". You can even see from some patent documents they filed how they have the exact same virtual click wheel illustrated on a tablet pc.

I totally agree though about the whole touching- the-screen issue. Maybe if they really perfected the whole screen protector thing. My little brother has one on his new iPod and you can't really even tell it's on when you're watching video.
