Hello,
I am sorry if I posted this in the wrong place. However, I did not see a better category.
Anyway, I am looking for a Mp3 player aproximately 20-30 GB with a hard drive, that can also double up as a portable HDD. It should also show up in windows explorer as a removable drive without the need for proprietary software. Could you recommend me one please.

I realize I am contributing to the delinquency of a misplaced post, but in the spirit of knowledge sharing prior to this thread getting relocated...

I have the iRiver 3xx series and I dig it. Its navigation system is a bit clunky, but it does everything you want, as well as play video clips and show pictures. You need to flash the player to a non-US version, but that's cake (edumacate yourself here http://www.misticriver.net/boards/forumdisplay.php?f=83).

I think this would probably be better off in the mobile computing thread, but I'm sure it'll just get moved.

Anyway, I recommend an iRiver. They have a couple models that meet your needs. I have an iHP-140 which is the 40gig version, iHP-120 is the 20gig. They also have an H320 which is pretty much the same as the iHP-120 but with a color screen and can view photos. Both of these are plug-and-play portable hard drives that I've never had a problem with. There's an H10 model of which the US version aparently doesn't support PnP but needs a program (similar to the ipod) to act as a HD. Here's a pretty nice enthusiast community that can provide a lot of in-depth experience. Hope this helps!
 
Seriously check out the neuros player it has a built in FM transmitter and turner along with open source software so you can "mod" it if you wanted. It has a nice software management program and if you plug it into a random computer it is seen as a usb drive. They come in 20 to 80 gb models and you can get them much cheaper than ipod’s or other mp3 players (with comparable) on ebay.

The IHP-120/140 cannot record from FM radio, but the H320/340 can.

As for the Neuros, it's way too bulky IMO -- the iRiver is a much better bet (and you could just buy an FM transmitter if you needed one).
 
I would look at the Cowon (Jet Audio) X5. It was just released, and is supposed to be awesome. If you can find it, CNET did a big write up on it.
