I wasn't 100% sure on where to post this thread... I figured its some form of a mod ;) . If this is in the wrong place feel free to move it.

Ok on with my question.

I'm planning on taking a long trip from North Carolina to Florida with my Zune Mp3 player. The dilemma I am facing is that I need a really good FM transmitter for it to work with my car. I've done my shopping and have "kinda" settled on this one:

It seams to be the best transmitter... but I see that a lot of customers still have a problem with the reception. So my idea is to see if I can mod it so the signal is a lot stronger. Would that be as easy as just opening it, locating the antenna and then make it longer, or is it a lot more complicated then that? :confused: Thank you in advance for any of your help.
 
Computer case modding forum != FM transmitters. That would go in the general hardware or computer audio subforum.. ;)

But, to get the best quality sound from your zune onto the car stereo is to go to radio shack and get a y-splitter from 3.5mm headphone jack, then plug in the RCA cables to your AUX input on the car stereo. If your car stereo doesn't have the AUX input, a shitty FM transmitter will do just fine. I've never had any luck with FM transmitters, even ones that were like $50. You'll be driving down the road, then it will fuzz out the audio, then come back just fine again. I'd use the FM transmitter as a last option. They do make a Zune car kit though that charges it while you drive via the cigarette lighter, and it comes with an FM transmitter.

Sadly my car doesn't have an aux input. So i have no choice but to use an FM transmitter, and to my understanding the Zune transmitter is horrible.

I'd buy a new car stereo with an AUX input before I purchased an FM transmitter again. lol.
 
I just picked up the el-cheapo Coby brand FM transmitter at my local Fry's, and it's worked just fine for me. They sell transmitters with and without the cigarette lighter adapter. Mine has a physical switch(!) to choose among four frequencies (88.1, 88.3, 88.5, 88.7), but it works just fine.

Keep in mind that when you're in the car, there's plenty of other noise (road, wind), so even if the tuning was a big fuzzy (which it isn't), it wouldn't be a big deal.
 
Well, as pointed out, this has nothing to do with case modding.......but we're friendly here, so you're in luck! ;)

I just bought a Sandisk Sansa mp3 player, and these come VERY highly recommended on the "anythingbutipod" forum:

Griffin Technology itrip auto universal+

One person there reviewed the itrip versus an inexpensive alternative, and said it was well worth the extra money. Good luck! :)
