Knee jerk reactions galore with this soap operatic drama. Is this what the tech industry is headed towards? Drama kings/queens & a bunch of angry commoners that cry for revolution when the slightest hint of difference from one's beliefs are shown?

Well the issue we have is that people seem to see "Free Speech" as the right to speak without criticism.. When it really is only about having the right to speak without being imprisoned.
People have the right to criticize bigotry. Bigotry has a long history of going from speech (which is protected) to criminal action, which is why it receives a lot of criticism. If you're going to be a douche and bigot, expect to be called on it. Because freedom of speech doesn't mean we have to accept those views.. It's just like "Christians" saying that people that don't accept Christianity is in itself an attack on Christianity.. It's a load of crap.

Until gays are beaten and lynched in this country on a regular basis, I fail to see the equivalence. This isn't Russia.
To you this may not be important to you, but being recognized as equals in terms of legal recognition of their rights is very important to gay people. Have some perspective, man.

Here's the thing: no, they didn't. He had a personal belief on a highly debated and controversial issue, and donated a small amount of money to one side. Had it been the other side, there would never have been a peep about it. Mozilla did not participate in the Prop 8 debate, nor did Eich ever address the issue as an employee of Mozilla. He had zero record of showing any preference to certain employees over others, or any other such behavior.
This was entirely done because a lot of people want to punish other people for not thinking like them. Nothing to do with gay marriage or any other issue. It is simply an exercise in using mass outrage to destroy people. Might as well be a bunch of bloodthirsty religious fanatics rioting over a cartoon. Well, they're not there yet. Baby steps.
I really hope this wasn't directed at me. If so, yikes.

You got proof that in modern America we have a problem with gay people regularly being lynched and beaten? Emphasis: regularly. I'll laugh if you bring up a murder from 15 years ago that is beginning to be heavily questioned.

Blacks were beaten regularly by police. I don't see that happening to gays in this country.
I do see it happening in Russia. Hence the comment that equating the inability to marry a person of the same gender in some states to getting hosed down by a firetruck for being black aren't even close to being the same. Hence why its insulting to those who were there.
Cool. You're intolerant of opposing people's views on gay marriage, so you shouldn't be tolerated.

People don't have the right to injure others because of their beliefs. Injuries, by the way, are not limited to bodily harm. Ever heard of libel and slander laws?
