Hi all, starting a new build that we will be donating as a prize at Intel LANFest Sacramento this October. Since we got such a good response from the last Borderlands case mod that we did, we decided to stick with that theme, but change it up a bit.
The case is a Cooler Master Haf 932 that was donated by LANFest.
Primarily it will just be a paint mod, but i've got a mod planned to mimick the Moxxi stars that are inside her bars. The sides and chasis will be black (primed and painted glossy black), along with the bay covers and side rails that run up the front of the case. The grill cover will be purple, the top is going to be black and white stripes. The panel on the motherboard side will have the "X" painted purple, with black and white stripes beneath it. The side with the large fan grill will be black, with a Moxxi portrait, and the far area painted purple. The whole case will then get the Borderlands treatment, some roughing up, some graffiti, and some Moxxi touches.

So my work on the side panels is done for now; now it is Lisa's turn to work her magic on the case and truly make it a Moxxi case.

These need to get the 'Borderlands treatment', these things are way too clean!!

So we were looking to fill the top front of the case with something to cover the water-filing access port, since the donated case was missing the rubber cover.

This is just a little matrix of RGB LEDs I made for messing around with, my kid gets to program shapes and animations and stuff.

I've been wanting to do a Moxxi star mod since the first Borderlands 2 case, so I was going to use this opportunity to do just that.
I cut-to-fit semi-opaque acrylic to the opening, then designed a series of stars in Inkscape, printed them, then traced them on masking tape (Duck Tape brand, its thin and the paint ran underneath it, but in all fairness we are talking very small pieces of tape), then cut them out with an exacto.

They were then sprayed with black Fusion paint, peeled off and cleaned up.

Here's the fit in the case with the lights underneath it. The finished build will have all stars be a different color, and have a more accurate fade/flash/scroll effect to mimic the game.

Here's a video of the test pattern on the case. I am loving how this is turning out!

That video doesn't do it justice :) I think we need a better video camera if our cases are going to continue to have rapidly flashing colorful lights.

It got a great reception at LANFest this weekend, Moxxi put on a great show. I was able to get the 13 RGB LEDs strung up to the arduino as well, but it required some on-site soldering to move them to different pins, but all is well. They cycle through 6 different shades of purple, we just hung them there so whoever was going to be putting hardware in could just tack them where they saw fit. the effect is really cool, I couldn't have asked for it to come out any better given time/budget restraints.

the moxxi stars are badass, hell the entire case is badass. Amazing work, yet again, you two. That is one sexy ass case.

Looking forward to seeing what else you have up your sleeves for future builds.
