I currently use a PD170; awesome camcorder. But, I decided to move to HDV. I have a $4,000 - 4,500 budget which includes tripods, mics, lens, etc. I know I can reuse my current gear, but being the person I am, I want new gears to go along with the new cam. I would like to stick with prosumer/professional camcorders.

Heres some camcorders thats on my mind:

Sony HDR-FX1
Sony HVR-V1
Sony HDR-FX7
Canon XH-A1
Canon XH-G1

I usually shoot events, so I gotta be ready for any type of scene. 3CCD is a big plus, but I don't mind 3CMOS.

I been looking at the Manfrotto 503HDV tripod head, but I'm not sure on what legs to get.

I'm planning to purchase everything from BHphoto.

thanks,

Out of curiosity... how do you plan to output HDV? Shooting it is one thing, having a monster computer to edit is another... then what will you do for output?

I'm still shooting DV myself... and have looked forward to some sort of HD... but I don't know what do to with it afterwards! Blu-Ray?

I'll buy your old PD-170 ;)

I think my computer can handle HDV... shouldn't be a hard task editing it.

Even though I'll probably have the final result as SD, I'll will always have the raw footage as HDV so whenever the customer comes back to me in the future asking for a HDV copy; I'll be ready to give them one. Basically, I'm future proofing myself.

Haha thanks for your offer, but I cant let go of this baby.. been with me since forever.

I'll let you know now that the FX7 sucks in low-light... from personal experience :)

Small Cmos sensors, then again it's half of your budget... $2500 vs. $4500...

V1 and FX1 will be a bit better, but HDV brings out the flaws in footage that was hidden a lot before with SD...

Then there's HDV/Mpeg artifacts which are annoying, but dealt with... CMOS and rolling shutter which again isn't that big of a deal unless you're panning VERY fast... by then HDV/Mpeg artifacts are ruining the shot already...

Just depends on how picky you are, you picked a pretty wide range of cameras though... Sony doesn't even consider the FX7 as prosumer... it's consumer to them, cause it's grey not black
