My PS just went and took out my Asus P5WD2 motherboard where I had RAID 1 setup. From what I've read moving RAID arrays is dependent on the southbridge. The southbridge on the motherboard is ICH7R with Intel Matrix Technology.

If I replace the motherboard with one with the ICH7R southbridge will moving the RAID array be successful? Could I use a newer motherboard with a newer southbridge? Finding one with the ICH7R is going to be hard. Newegg has a couple open box items.

I want the easiest and cheapest solution to get back up and running and I assume this is it.

ouch. I wish I knew enough to advise you on this. I have 3 raid5 arrays one on intel, one on a highpoint card, and finally got scared of this hardware eventuality and am running a raid5 in software on linux for my latest setup. All I can say is be careful with whatever solution you decide on, make sure you take your time at every stage of this venture if your data is critical you must proceed with the utmost caution. But, you already knew that...

this has a promising post with some good tips but no real data on whether it will work or not

Looks like going with a newer Intel should be OK according to what I read here. But again, I have no first-hand experience.
