I have never done this before, but I have a RAID 0 Array in my current system I am going to move to my new motherboard and CPU combo i just got. Anyone thing I will have any issues with this, or should I start backing up 200+GB on to CDs and DVDs?

If it matters these are SATA drives and the raid controller on both boards is different.

Backup the array with Norton Ghost. You can basically take the Partition information off of the system and put it onto any HDD with any size.

For example I had a 50GB RAID stripe between 5 X 18GB drives in RAID 5.

I made a partition ghost and took out the RAID and replaced it with one fat 250GB HDD.

I dumped the partition on the 250GB HDD and resized the partition. All worked fine after I reghosted it.

Norton Ghost 2003... Get it!

With software raid, all you have to do is re-activate the drives once they are in the new system and you're all good to go. I'd imagine it's a lot harder with hardware raid :(

The RAID on those el cheapo controllers is mostly software. Theoretically arrays could be converted, but then the formats on how the stripeset data are stored are slightly different from product to product and mfg to mfg. I'm sure if someone put forth effort to check things out thoroughly a utility could be produced to convert the data. Then all you'd need to do would be to initialize the destination BIOS (which can be dramatic in itself trying to not wipe your data).

Guess I will start rummaging through my files and deleting stuff i dont need and backing the rest up. I am moving from onboard SATA raid to a new on board raid controller on my new mohterboard. I had a feeling it wouldn't be easy like i wanted. Too bad i don't have a spare 200GB drive to put everything on while i move the drived :(
