moving programs / OS to another drive...?

kinda noobish question...

I currently have one main hard drive on my PC - a 16MB 300GB Maxtor DiamondPlus10.

i want to get a standalone drive for just my OS and programs - about 150GB-ish...

I plan on reformatting the 300GB drive to then use as a file drive but is there a process of moving the programs and Windows XP to the new drive first?
 
DriveImageXML works fine for me, and it's free. Can't beat that.

 
ahh - so I need an imaging software? I'll check those two that you guys mentioned... is Norton Ghost an option as well?

I'm not a big fan of Norton but I have access to that program but not yet installed...
