Moving from smaller to larger drive problems with XP

In my daughter's PC, I am going to move her from an older 80 gig drive to a less older 120 gig drive (both maxtor, IDE, PATA). I have used Parition Magic 8.0 and the Drive Copy feature in Norton Ghost 9 and the larger drive fails to boot completely using either method the exact same way. It gets as far as the smaller Windows logo screen and hangs there. Safe mode hangs at same point. It is expanding the boot partition during the copy, and doing integrity check, etc...

Anyone have any experience with this problem? At this point I'm considering just adding the larger as the 2nd drive, but did not want to do this as I wanted it for boot drive as it is faster.

I'd get a bootable USB thumb drive, and stick the ghost.exe file on it. Boot from the USB drive, and clone the 80 to the 120. If you do it as a disk to disk option, you shouldn't have any issues with it.
