Okay, so it looks like there is going to be a shift on my hobby, selling everything on the IB/1155 and moving to 2011. Regarding the K and non-K, I know all about it, but my question is: What's most beneficial by going with the 3930K over the 3820? I know about the price, too, so that's not the issue. The 3820 runs stock at 3.6Ghz vs. 3.2Ghz for the K. The thing is, my local MC's doesn't have the 3820 in stock. If anything, I will have to order it.

Which one to pick and why?

Im going 3820, the price diff just wasnt worth it to me for the 3930k with what I do, but still leaves a decent upgrade path for the future when everything gets a little more threaded. Figure out what your going to be doing ,and does it need to have a 4C/8T or 6C/12T, make the decision from there. Seems the 3820's clock fairly well too

Are you switching over to 2011 for more video cards to install(4 way) or 64gb's of memory?
A 3820 isn't going to be really any faster with the extra 4 HT's in games and such. Maybe a bit for encoding. The 6 core will be a lot faster in multi threaded with 2 extra full cores.

The 3820 has the BCLK strap option, so you can effectively create 125 and 166 mhz BCLK for the memory and CPU.

The 3820 has 4 cores based on SB architecture, the 3930k has 6 cores based on SB architecture. In most games, the extra cores won't make a difference.

if you can and will use the extra cores, the choice seems simple if price is not an issue.

I've said it before and i'll say it again (and again...) I love the 3930k wish i could justify the 3960
