Moving from full tower to SFF

Hi everyone!

I built me a full tower case system in October but now I am in need of moving it to a SFF. I am wanting to move my CPU, RAM, HDD, and GPU's. I am going to buy a new mothernboard, SFF case, and modular PSU.

Here is what I intend to move:

Intel E8400 Wolfdale
2 x Visiontek ATI Radeon 4850's
2 x WD 500GB HDD's
4 GB G.Skill DDR2 800 RAM

It'll be fine, except that the hard drive connectors might be cramped by the primary video card. Can't remember offhand, since it's been awhile since my own Sugo-F assembly.

Are you using the stock Intel cooler? With that dual, you could easily use an NT06 and run it passively, using the PSU fan to cool your CPU as well. It'll cut down on some noise, though you may have to sacrifice an overclock to get away with it.
 
Should be fine, just keep in mind EVERYTHING is gonna run warmer in that SG01 case, so unless you do some serious dremeling to that thing, expect to drop your OC a bit for stability.
 
i did something very similar just recently (well, yesterday)

i had a system running a q6600@3.0 on a dfi lp dark in a huge rocketfish case... and i realized one day that a. i dont need a quad and b. i definitely didnt need the huge full tower

so this is what i did:

new system on a cheapo gigabyte G31 matx board in a LianLI V350 case
E5200@2.755 for now with a CM gemini2 cooler

with intel burn test running, temps didnt go past 50C

also, win7 64 has been smooth as heck so far :)

only thing that is bothering me is the performance of my WD6400AAKS hdd... for whatever reason everytime i run hdtach/tune, everything is roughly 20% slower than before (before as in when the hdd was running vista64 with the q6600 on the dfi board)

Now, to answer your question, like someone else mentioned, the case will be smaller and with your setup (2x 4850 cards) heat may be an issue. What cooler will you be using on the CPU? Looks like a tower type cooler might not fit in that Sugo case (psu hangs over the cpu area).

I was planning on using my stock Intel heatsink since I do not do any overclocking. I also was wanting to know if my 750 watt Corsair nonmodular PSU would work. I would rather use what I have existing than buy a lot of new components. That is why I would like to co tinue using my 4850's in Crossfire since I like to game in my native resolution of 1900x1200.
 
Your Corsair PSU will be more than up to the task. They are good PSUs. Don't buy a new one. The non modularity will penalize you (in terms of space), but not that much because most of the leads will be used anyway. And you can also stick with the stock Intel cooler (it will provide some much needed airflow around the CPU) because it doesn't look like noise will be a priority for you. Am I wrong?

The HDD 'issue' might come from the ICH7 of the G31 board. Does that make sense? Also you should be able to run your E5200 at 12.5*240= 3GHz with your RAM at 800 (strap 200) if your board lets you, and this with a very small increase in voltage, if anything.
 
Anyone have an opinion on using crossfire 4850's in a SG01-F or Lanbox Lite or will this be too hot of a setup? Should I get a single card setup to game at 1900x1200, like a 4870 or nVidia card?

How long at a time are you wanting to game?

Unless you are hardcore, a GTX 260 216 pipes or a 4870 1GB should be plenty. What games do you play? Personally I'm a UT3 freak and I play on a 1920x1200 monitor with 'only' a 8800GT with all visuals on 5 (out of 5). Then again, this game is really well optimized, and very much CPU intensive (OCing is quite useful).
