I installed sharepoint 2010 on a vm of 2008R2 a few months back, but since this vm is hosted on a computer that often is hibernated, I did not want the SQL database running in a vm (note non of this is production).
A week back I setup a 2008 SQL server on a machine with a RAID5 share, was starting to play with forefront endpoint. Anyways, I wanted to move my sharepoint database over. Following technet's instructions, I successfully detached each database, moved the files over to the new SQL server and attached them. At the end, I created an alias on the old SQL server pointing towards the new one.
On the old server I tried SQL studio, connecting to the local (old) server and it successfullly connected to the new server. But when I try to get into sharepoint administrator console, all I get is "cannot connected to configuration database".
Any thoughts on this, maybe I missed something? Its not a big deal, I am doing this to learn, so rather have something break so I know how to fix it.
Thanks!
