Basically, I have a pfsense VM- Just got my new ITX board, and want to move the whole thing over. anyone got any ideas?

Yup, what Guv said- found under the Diagnostics tab. FYI, it will not create VLANs as part of the restore if you use those. If you use VLANS, create them in the initial text-mode setup.

Ya, the good thing about most all linux / bsd based OS is you can literally move it between hardware with no issues, unlike windows.

im hoping it will work out ok- luckily so far im not using vlans, maybe ill add one this time, can i add a network card after the initial install ? or will it not be recognized?

you can add interfaces at any point. Also you may get an interface mismatch on backup-->restore if the name or amount changes in between. You may have to manually set interfaces during the restore. It's still VERY simple!

I guess I am just lucky then. I have had 3 instances where I had to move a server 2008 install to different hardware entirely, and it took it like a champ.

Windows server 2003/2000/XP? HA! good luck! If that was what you were referencing...

Well.. sadly (Even tho it worked as previously booted) It did not take the move well, refused to get a WAN ip.. so Im just redoing it...

I dont have all that many custom settings anyways

I think you can do granular restores and leave out the interface section if you want as well :p

You are correct. Just pop open the config file in a text editor and modify the interface parameters. You can even delete the whole interface section and just reset it up on first boot.

maybe something to play with, but it was most likely better to reset the whole config. Im not running off an itx board.intel D2500CC or something like that. atom dual 1.86ghz 2 gigs of ddr3. has the mini pcie so maybe ill add wireless for direct routing. beyond that it has been an amazing machine so far. just need a new case for it and life is golden
