Move hard drive over with OS to new system?

Hi Everyone
This may be a stuipd question, but can I take my old hard drive with Win XP on it and build a new computer (new mobo, new CPU) and insert the same hard drive with all my data, turn it on and have everything still there?

That would be quite a timesaver...
 
Assuming there are not licensing issues, if you use Sysprep, you should only have to install the drivers for the new hardware. There's a sticky on this very subject, and it will save you from a re-install.
 
it is still better to do a clean install though....

in the long run it will be more stable (that is what I have found at least).
