mouse trouble- help plz??

i have a fellowes optical mouse that i got for $cheap at best buy to fix a problem. the problem is still there: when i move my mouse, it sometimes decides to jump to an entirely different place.

arrrg. any help out there?

btw, the mousepad i am using looks like a bucket of mercury being blown up.
 
First try different surfaces. If the problem only exists with certain surfaces then you solved the problem if it happens with all surfaces then, if it's USB, try checking to see if your motherboard requires USB drivers and look for updated drivers. Other than that I don't know what else to try other than mouse drivers.
 
unfortunately, i cannot replace my motherboard.

my computer is a toshiba satellite 1415-S173.

and it's happened on other surfaces, and with other mice.
 
Replace your motherboard? Just check to see if your system requires USB drivers and see if there's an updated version.
 
no new drivers that were a good match. that would have been an easy fix tho.

anyone else got a suggestion?
 
Do you have another computer you can test the mouse ona nd see if it does the same thing?
 
Only other suggestion I have is plugging the mouse into a different USB port. Preferably one on a seperate controller (if your system has more than 1 controller)
 
tried that.

the computer tried to reinstall the driver (generic windows xp driver-- yes, i followed instructions) :rolleyes: it really screwed the thing up. the mouse actually has browser forward/back buttons built into it, plus a scroll wheel, and every so often (random) the computer would suddenly decide that the scroll wheel was for changing text size within the browser.

:mad: good lord did that ever drive me nuts.

but when i changed ports it was ok again and hasn't done *that* since.

and before you ask, it was being contrary with the jumping cursor before that ever happened. so that is not the prob.
 
Have you tried google to see if others have experienced the same problem?

Ok. I looked up that computer. I didn't know it was a laptop. Is it possible that you may be restinging part of your hand close to the touchpad causing the system to register both the mousemovement AND the touchpad? My laptop will do exactly what you describe if I am moving the mouse and my hand accidentaly touches the touchpad.

Dude you should save some money and buy MX510 (or something else if you want). And also you should think about a good surface, I use Icemat Black 2nd ed (www.icemat.com).
It will be lotta cash but i don't regret it.
 
i have $120 to my name, and that's all going toward my mac mod. and since i don't have a paypal card, and won't for two months :mad: there isn't much i can buy online.

i'm tired of dealing with running to a store and getting a mouse that doesn't work. i just want to know how (and if) the one i have is fixable. by me.
