Mouse scrolls on it's own

Anyone know how to fix this?

Once in a while my mouse, MS Intellimouse Exporer 3.0 will just scroll down on it's own one "click" it sucks for games where all of a sudden I am now using the wrong weapon!

I just reformated my system and it's still doing this.. any ideas?
 
Yea, it's wearing. I was actually noticing that on my Intelemouse Explorer (it's the orriginal one, i've had it for quite a while now). Sometimes i'll scroll one line and it'll go more than once or sometimes it'll just scroll when i'm doing something else. I figure the mechanism is worn out or perhaps dirty. I havn't gotten around to ripping it appart again (already pulled it appart and pushed the wire up further in because it had broken connection where the wire enters the mouse), just not sure I feel like disturbing that since it's been working so well as my mobil laptop mouse. :)
 
That particular mouse is a bit tricky to disassemble, but if you can get it apart, you can fix it. My experience is that the problem will be a mechanical one that you can see...dirt on contacts, etc.

Moral: Keep extra mice onhand. That way if you kill one, it's no big deal.
 
MX510 is gold...they guy i bought it from accidentally sent me 2 mice instead of one...my good concience told me to send it back, and i did.....damn i wish i didnt...dont get me wrong...the 510s are AWESOMe...instantaneous improvement of aim. my Ratpadz is wearing down the pads on it tho..decreasing performance..but meh, thats why god made teflon tape...the mx1000 is ugly as hell, but its the best mouse out there. expensive and slightly bigger methinks..but worth it all
