I purchased an MX revolution a couple months ago and overal I like it except the signal strength on it SUCKS, my computer is 3.5' from my mouse and it still stutters and loses connection all the time, it drives me nuts. Not to mention makes it a horrible mouse for gaming.

I prefer cordless mice but will consider corded. any recommendations.

Razer Copperhead
Geek Squad guy recommended it to me and I decided to get it over some logitech and I love it! Two buttons on each side, three on the top, can adjust sensitivity with the click of a button. It has a 2000dpi Laser Sensor, 32KB Onboard Memory, 1000Hz Ultrapolling, response time of 1ms, as compared to that of 125Hz / 8ms found in conventional gaming mice.

I use razer copperhead as well, and I love it
different feel than other mouse, but in my opinion, different is not bad. Also, if youre left handed its the best gaming mouse (so i've heard, since the mouse can be used with left or right hand easily)

Tough choices, you need to do a few things. Figure out what type of player you are, finger tip or palm. Also how much do you like the Logitech style mice?

I currently use the diamondback and love it, but I have been playing FPS games more so the finger tip style mouse is great for gaming, but when I was playing more MMOs or RPGs a year or more ago I used a Logitech mouse because it was easier and more relaxed. Also the G7 is a very solid cordless mouse and enjoyed my use with it, before I started using the diamondback, but it has its faults. Such as only one side button, the top buttons (scroll up/down quickly) are a bit different than some other versions.

Also you need to look at what type of surface you play on and what size you play on, you like short distance for fast quick movements (higher sensitivity), or do you play across are large area for these quicker movements (lower sensitivity).

I upgraded from the MX518 (great mouse too) and haven't looked back. Only downside is the name is ri-frickin-diculous.

I know that the mx518 was great..but it's time has come and went, more then a few generations ago. I would recommend the Logitech g9. I've been using mine for a few days now, and it is ridiculously smooth. Not even comparable to the mx518 or g7, that is how smooth it is.

I'd highly recommend the Logitech G5.

Extremely accurate, on-the-fly DPI change that works perfectly without any software and is extremely accurate, excellent performance and has the unique feature of a cartridge that slides into the bottom in which you can place different weights (about nine different grams of weights come with it) to change the weight of the mouse. One of the greatest features I've ever seen with a mouse. The shape I've also found to be the most perfect for the natural curve for your hand.

I don't know about Razer... have a Copperhead and it's ok and works fine without their software installed (which is a serious pain), but the firmware in their mice always seems to have problems, the button are in an odd place and it's a very "flat" design, i.e. not much of a curve to the mouse itself. Good if you play strictly with your fingertips, but if you tend to change your grip, it doesn't really suit well.

Just my opinion, but I've used countless mice, but have stuck with the G5 since it's release and have found it to be the best in terms of performance and feel.

MX518 - i've had mine for over two years and it's great

Still shootin' with my MX518 as well. Its a perfect mouse with no dumbass bells and whistles thrown on it, and it has a nice weight to it. Grab some little teflon stickers for it to make it uber pro. I only had to disable the sensitivy switching so I could make use of the top middle row buttons. I honestly dont know who the hell uses that DPI switching shit... :I

Another vote for Copperhead. I went from an Intellimouse Explorer to it and was amazed. It took a few days to adjust to the feel of it but I love it now. 2000 DPI is too much for me so I use 1600. My wife used my PC a few days ago and lost the cursor instantly cause she's used to 200 or whatever those cheap optical mice used. She was amazed I could change it with a few button presses.

Another vote for MX518. This is the ONLY mouse I will ever use. One time I bought a razor because I bought into the hype. After using it for an hour I put it back in the box and returned it.

I use a Razer deathadder and it is the best gaming mouse that I've ever used! I've tried the g7 and I actually liked it a lot, but I was tired of changing batteries so much. I switched to the deathadder and I have no complaints. The perfect mouse for me. Thats the thing though you really need to find a mouse that suits your style of playing. Couple of things to note is how you hold the mouse (claw or palm) and if the genre of game you play. Hope you find a good mouse!

Logitech G5 Rev. 2. I have really been pleased with this mouse, as well as the first model.

I tried the Deathadder and it died on me after 2 days. It will be my last Razor product since my Barracuda audio card came with crap software support.

thanks all for the replies, I think I will pick up a mx518, 42 shipped off amazon.

thanks

You want the best mouse recommendation?

I'm a mouse freak. Owned/have experience with every single mouse out there, save this batch of mice this year (Logitech G9, Razer Lachesis, Microsoft Sidewinder) which are nothing but a bunch of vermin with crappy laser sensors in them as well as gimmicks.

I had:

MS IE 3.0 (2 of them)
MX518 (6 of them)
Logitech MX500, 510
Razer Copperhead
Razer Deathadder

The best mouse is the MX518, bar none, and get the new 1800dpi version while you're at it. Granted, the shape screwed up my hand, but that was a long time ago, damage already done.

So yeah. MX518 FTW.

super happy with my deathadder. nice intellimouse esque shape and the tracking is crazy smooth

thanks for the mx518 recommendation.. just received it today and I love it... very nice. Just curious.. the dpi.. what difference does it make exactly? I tried moving it from 1800 down to 1200 and notice no difference.

thanks

i didn't notice much difference either, at least between the top two settings. I just cranked it to 1800dpi and was done with it. why not use the highest setting?

Going from those two DPI settings you will not see much difference, now use it for awhile at 1800 and then drop back to 800 and you will notice a big change.

I have a G5 spiderman edition ( aka rev. 2 ;) ). I don't get why ppl choose OPTICAL 518 over LASER G5.

My wife broke the scroll wheel on my diamondback a few days ago. I went to bestbuy and CC yesterday intending to pickup a Razer Copperhead - I'm left handed, so my options are somewhat limited. Well, BB only had deathadders. So, I went over to CC. They didn't have anything by Razer. After politely telling the saleman that NO the G5 and G7 are NOT ambidextrous and to go away and leave me alone, I settled on the Logitech G3.
I have small hands and the G3 is a better fit for me than even the Diamondback - which is a fairly small mouse. I like the extra sensitivity and the dry grip on it. The PTFE pads slide a bit smoother than my Diamondback. And the side buttons are placed further back, which is good for me and my small girlish hands. The Diamondbacks were a little to far forward. Logitechs ScrollPoint is loads better than Razers software. Overall, I'm happy with it if not exactly estactic. I would say it's more of a sidegrade than upgrade.
