I am stumped on which mouse pad to get. I plan to buy a razer mamba (the new edition when it comes back in stock since it is currently unavailable), but have no idea about the mouse pad I want. I have narrowed it down to the xtrac ripper xxl and razer megasoma. I have also looked at the ironclad, but is it really worth the high price? If there are other mouse pads that are better or I should consider please tell me (I am not very knowledgeable about mouse pads). I am an avid gamer, but honestly, I have been using my old compaq keyboard and mouse combination from almost 8 years ago with no mouse pad, I have finally decided to upgrade (I have no idea why I have not considered this before).
 
try a newer laser mouse of your choice and clear contact paper. works great with my rat 7 and its cheap. and has the side effect of protecting your desk
 
I actually would not get the Megasoma. It's a really weird pad.

My personal favorite is the Steelseries SX, but that unfortunately seems to have disappeared from the face of the earth.

I also have a Goliathus with the speed surface that's good if you like cloth pads, and I also have the Ironclad. The Ironclad is good, but I don't know if it's good enough to justify the cost over something like the Scarab, which is supposedly really good.
 
Honestly I used to have a big wide Xtrac, over time it became worn out and I picked up a $5 pad from Staples. There's no difference except for the size of the pad itself which doesn't really matter IMO.
 
Make sure you have room for the Ripper XXL. I got the QcK+(another similar mousepad) and it was about 4x the size of a regular one!
 
I just got the Wowpad. Not to be confused with ShamWow. :D It's not a peripheral makers pad, but I had a round one I got at like Office Depot and it works great. I got a much larger one form Amazon today. All my mice work well with it.

I'd go with the "Ratpadz" that Kyle came up with a number of years ago. I've got one for each of my desktops and have never looked back.

Ive always preferred soft mouse pads. Ive tried a couple hard surfaces but never liked the way they felt. Im currently using a Razer Goliathus and its getting the job done. It looks good, seems to be well built and it tracks very well. Works for me for $20.

I have a ratpadz XT. The surface is ok but the shape and size of the thing is just all kinds of wrong.

Plus it destroys mouse feet.

I used it for like three months and just gave up and got something else.

If you have an XT that "destroys" mouse feet, the pad is either damaged or worn out. Given the three months, I would say that the pad has been damaged.
 
I bought the Steelseries QCK+ upgrading from a worn out rag that I got during a competition a few years back. My old mousepad was a beast ( or so I thought ) but when I got this QCK+ it was at least 2 times the size. I also forgot how sleek a cloth mousepad could feel, my old one had been abused to hell and back so it wasn't too smooth. But this QCK+ is really really smooth with my mx518. Not a bad price either.
 
I used to be a fan of Ratpadz XT, but they're too thick and hurt my wrist because of the angle my wrist is subjected to when I'm resting my arm on the table. I own 4 or 5 of the Ratpadz XTs.

I've switched over at work to the Xtrac Ripper XL and XXL at home. They're very comfortable & precise. I've had them for about 6 months now, but the one at work is starting to show some wear; the fabric surface is separating from the rubber backing.

My wife and guest computers are relegated to using those uncomfortable Ratpadz XTs. I've got a few extra. I wonder how many I can ship back to kyle & he pay shipping?
 
I can't speak highly enough of the Steelseries 4/9HD. A bit pricey, but if you were considering a Ratpadz, you should be in the market for one of those. The 9HD is by far the best mousepad I have ever had. My mouse just glides across, and the sensor picks up every movement. Thin and stiff, with a bit of give to it. Really great product.
 
I bought the Rocketfish RF-GMSEPD from Bestbuy last week. I bought it to be used by both my desktop and laptop. It works great with my Logitec Performance MX mouse which simply glides on both sides of the mouse pad surface. Unfortunately, it doesn't work very well at all with my Targus wireless laptop mouse which i bought back in 2003. I'll probably end up getting an inexpensive mouse pad for my laptop.

I actually have not used the mouse pad to play games on my desktop since I recently got my laptop and I am putting it through it's paces to write a review. Besides, it's my new toy for now.

or Func Archytype (metal base + plastic surface)

Both are incredibly smooth and accurate. I love how i can blow on my mouse and watch it slide across the SX. A very good friend of mine has the func, and it has the same deal.

I dont like cloth pads because they have more friction. I like it super slippery. Helps to ahve a slippery surface + low dpi. Easy to make large sweeping motions to get those headshots in :D
 
I've never had a better mouse pad than a C4 NGen. It's unbelievably good and lasts forever. And pretty cheap.

No idea what happened but now my mouse doesn't encounter the same problem with the XT that it did yesterday. It used to drift of uncontrollably when at rest on the XT's surface, now it works 100% fine. Can't replicate the problem.
 
Another vote for the QcK. I use a QcK Mass at home and carry a QcK Mini with my laptop. Spent about $27 for both.
 
I'm not so sure that I can justify spending any more than the $15 that I spent on my QCK+.
 
I use a Razer Goliathus medium pad with my Mamba, but I wish I had gotten the large one. It's bigger than a normal pad, but I think a little bigger would have been more useful
