does anyone know what the best "wax" for a mousepad (besides the ones you can buy online) would be? beeswax makes it shiney, but more friction. what about carwax? any thoughts? im building my own mousepad... thanks

wouldn't wax eventually be worn away by the friction of the mouse and your arm, leading to gummed up optical sensors, uneven mousing surfaces, etc.

IMHO your best bet is still some good teflon tape and a quality mousing surface.

Gummed up optical sensor? The optical sensor isn't a moving part like a mouse ball. If the recess that the optical sensor is in picks up crap off of your pad you should repair/replace your mousefeet with fragtape.

I had a brain fart a little while ago and thought my Orig. Ratpad was going bad. A little application of pledge and the thing glides like new.

My $0.02

What are you making it out of?
my test surfaces are currently (i havent decided on one yet):
glazed fiber (from an older style 3 ring binder cover)
cast acrylic (realy needs something to kill friction)
ziploc frezer bag glued to something...
