Has anyone worked out the best place to tap power from inside your average optical mouse? I'd like to use as much of the current that -isn't- going to the actual mouse electronics as possible to power some other electronics I'm adding.

Also, has anyone ever reflashed a mouse's microcontroller to add more functionality/use unused I/O pins?

Just some thoughts.. googled around a bit, figured if anyone knew, this crew would..

USB or PS/2??? on usb u could just feed off the 5V pin...probably a 5V on ps/2 also, but not sure where it is... any whoo, usb or ps/2?

If your mouse is PS/2 you can get +5V from pin 4 and GND from pin 3. If it is USB, +5V is pin 1 and GND is pin 4. Available power is limited to about 500mA (2.5 watts).
