Mouse mod idea, or concept for future optical mice

Was just using my intellimouse explorer and thought why doesn't someone make an optical mouse which rolls?

Instead of pushing it around the desk, wouldn't it feel so much smoother if each corner of the mouse had a ball which it rolled on? Replace those mouse feet with little balls, and use a smooth surface and I would think that mouse would feel much better with less friction.

Just an idea, doesn't it make sense though?

ok, but they will have to be verry verry small, posibly not worth it by the time you get small enouph, b/c the optical censor wont read if its a little too high from where it is now

i had taken the feet off and glued in plexi glass that i rounded it worked great, untill some one drop kicked it, it knocked a foot off, and they wherent level when i put them back on, it became a mess but it worked great b4 it got messed up

so keeping it level is a must, and not all that easy

Well....wouldn't you still be stuck with the cleaning issues encountered with ballmice already?

only, instead of cleaning 1 large ball and rollers, you have to clean 4. (or 5 if it's still a mechanical mouse)

I think teflon feet are probably good enough.

I use teflon feet, a Ratpadz, and frequent applications of silicon spray to both. It glides like it's on water.

But that may be a bit much. I've had people complain that my mouse is too slick to use properly.
