I have a Diamondback 3G and I am running 1800dpi mode with mouse acceleration turned off. I always have had acceleration on but people say it's better for gaming to have it off. I have noticed that with mouse acceleration off my mouse just isn't as precise and it seems to skip farther across the screen when I just move it slightly. Is this something that I just need to get used to? Or is something wrong?

mouse acceleration?

It does take a little while to get used to a mouse with high DPI and no acceleration. When I switched from a regular Microsoft laser mouse to my G9 at 3200DPI and no acceleration, it took me a few days to adjust my hand movement. Now, I don't think I could comfortably go back the other way. Also, 500Hz polling rate is the sweet spot to get precise movement with not too much CPU usage.
I am just using a normal mousepad like a cisco one, nothing serious. It has a smooth surface but it isn't hard. I just don't get why it's more precise with mouse acceleration turned on.
Also, what's an easy way to change my polling rate? There's nothing in my Diamondback software.

You could change it with some other software but doesn't make any difference on a diamondback anyways.
It's probably more precise because of the way acceleration works. When you move a small amount with acceleration on, the mouse moves very very slowly. However, when you move that same amount with acceleration off it moves a lot further.

I honestly tried turning off mouse acceleration and the mouse just isn't accurate anymore. If I slightly move the mouse it skips over but when I have mouse accel turned on it smoothly moves across - not sure why this is the case. I upped my polling rate to 1000mhz when trying this, too.
I have no interest in getting a "gaming" surface because they are too big and look stupid. One of those Qck's look pretty good to me, though, so I'll probably get one of those.

You must have used acceleration for years if you think it is more accurate with it on. That or the acceleration was smoothing out crappy input that happened because of your mousepad. Try it on some different surfaces in your house before buying a new pad, you might find something that works better.
