I'm having some issues mounting the SSD in the new 1U case I have. I have 2, 1TB's going into this case.

I was thinking of adding spaces or some sturdy packing material in an area to the side that didn't have much airflow. How would you go about this?

You can use double-sided foam tape or stick-on velcro strips to attach an SSD anywhere it will fit and won't interfere with anything else. No need for airflow.

Alternately just leave it sitting wherever it is. As long as it can't get wedged into a fan or touch bare leads and short out something, it will be fine. I've known people to just leave their SSD dangling by the SATA power+data wires (in a tower case).
