I'm thinking of going triple 24"s at some point, but I'm not sure what the best way is (short of making a custom stand, which I do not have the resources to) to mount them. Do I look for a single stand for the three? 3 Ergotron arms? Having them on their regular stands would take up a little more desk space than I'd like...

For reference here's the desk I have: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80115988

That desk is not going to cut it. I have two 22'' monitors mounted on a 54'' desk and I only have six inches of space on each side. [pic]

edited to add: If I had to mount three monitors I would probably go with Ergotron's DS100 triple monitor stand, preferably with some sort of grommet mount instead of the huge metal base. Humanscale is supposed to release some new super mount in November so if I was making the purchase after then I would consider their offering as I'm quite happy with their M7 mount.

make sure that the 24" monitors you buy have VESA mounts. Not all monitors have this but you'll need them to mount to a custom monitor arm.

I have looked high and low for a triple 24" monitor mount system myself and so as of that I am currently still just using three Neo-Flex stands for my monitors but I also have the Galant desk, a little bigger than that one so even three 30" monitors would work.

The Ergotron DS100 is a good looking system but it is $300 and cannot hold three 24" monitors only two, you need to get an expansion bracket which runs another $150 or so. Humanscale also looks good but their website seems difficult to navigate to price out a tri-monitor setup.

I did however found a setup that might work but have yet to go through with it, several people on [H]ard have this in the dual monitor design, with the triple monitor I was thinking of just extending the arms a little bit with just some extra pieces of steel slid over or in the tubing and screwed down nice and tight plus it is under $100.

Sparkyy that triple monitor stand does look attractive, I wonder if it'll hold the weight...

I'm not worried about the desk cutting it, there's easily enough room for another screen:

Left is a Samsung 2343BWX, right the Dell 2407... :D

my suggestion would be 3 separate arms. i didn't like the ds100 due to price, lack of adjustability, and base on the desk. they have a clamp option but that's another ~200.
i had a triple monitor setup on one arm and the weight of it slightly bowed my ikea desk, so i took it down and am going to order 3 individual arms from monoprice for ~20 bux a pop.
cheap unlimited adjustability, and desk space.

I feel like such an idiot... why didn't I realize I could get arms for cheap at Monoprice...

if you put the displays on arms, either separate or the same, they will take up generally less space on the desk (at least perceived), because the arm is a cleaner way to mount the display (its mounted to the edge of the desk, so it isn't "sitting on the desk")

the cheap monoprice arms should work, or go with a dual monitor + single monitor ergo setup, the LX dual monitor arm will handle 2x24", not sure how the triple will handle the weight

the other option is to just use their stands, although this won't look as clean, and takes up a lot of space on the desktop

Do you have a picture of your setup? I would like to see how the monitors look on three separate arms as I was looking at a triple arm setup just to reduce clutter on the back edge of the desk.

Considering how cheap the Monoprice mounts are, and the lack of 22"+ triple monitor stands, I'm sold on this approach as well.

Here's a link for the 3-way adjustable Monoprice desk mount (they have a couple cheaper 1-way and 2-way adjustables also):

And a customer posted pictures of his setup. He's using two of these for the end monitors, with his larger middle monitor still using its normal stand.

Hey there I prefer the desk clamp stands over the stands that come with the monitors. I got mine from Tyke Supply and they were great. Their fast to answer any questions and ship same day. Thier prices were very competitve and I like the previous person needed them to support Larger monitors and I contacted Stacy at customer service and she sold me arm extensions for 35.00 this allowed me to have larger monitors and its great. I would recomend Tyke Supply as a seller any time.

Hope this helps someone.
