i have optimum online and its a cable boradband company. they have sent me a brand new modem and i connect via ethernet on my machine, and i also want to go on the USB with my laptop. so basicly i want to use the modem on my laptop and desktop at the same time. but i can not do this because whenever i plug them both in, only the one that is connected to the ethernet works. i restarted the modem and again only the enternet works, no internet for the usb/laptop.i want to use them AT THE SAME TIME.
how can i do this? btw i have to restart the modem to use each one, lets say i was using ethernet and i want to go on my laptop. i have to plug off eternet and plug in the usb for laptop and then restart the modem. ok. so i hope you understood what i just said.
 
You can't use both at the same time. You need either (1)Hub with multiple IP's from provider or (2) a router or (3) some sort of Internet Connection Sharing software
