Hi, my brother is planning on getting a new computer soon (his current one started smoking =/ ) and was probably get the Aspire case (or possibly the Aria - I haven't seen as many ravings about that case here though, so I'm not sure). I was wondering which of the 939 boards you guys would reccomend the most nowadays. I don't think we are planning on ocing much, if at all, so I'm more interested in features and stability. Support for the dual core AMD chips would be nice as well (though I'm sure most of them are nowadays).

soy reccomended a 6150/430 board from either msi or asus, but i was wondering what the rest of you thought. the number of the problems im seeing with the Asus one on newegg worries me.
 
i bought a biostar tforce-6100 and have been happy with it. i dont OC at all and have had no problem with stability or anything.
 
msi 6150 if you don't plan on oc-ing, foxconn 6150 if you want to at least have the ability to fool around a bit, and tforce6100 if you want to do hardcore oc'ing, The Asus is crap and don't even consider it.

ABIT and ASUS if you aen't ocing. MSI is not a bad company just not top notch like the other 2. If ypu are ocing... Biostar Tforce hands down. Nothing comes close.

I have to respectfully disagree with this. MSI has proven itself worthy with many recent awards for their products. In fact, they have some of the top rated motherboards out there. for mATX they probably are the best for non-overclocking.
 
do you guys see any size problems with using the msi board along with the zalmon 7000c cooler in an aria case (would have gone for the qpack, but the aria was already bought before i had the chance to suggest it). i've heard of some heat related things with the aria case and wanted to make sure nothing melted down this time. The height seems to be within limits (newegg says 62mm, one of the reviews i read had a Zalman 6500AlCu-B, supposedly 65mm tall), just worried about it's width/length bumping into the psu or other motherboard components
 
I've personally worked with a few MSI boards and various other boards. I've seen so many motherboards pass in front of me it's crazy.
MSI is not as high quality as ASUS and ABIT. I'm not saying they are junk just not as high quality as the other two. I don't care what those sites say. ASUS, lower end, are usually very ugly looking but are VERY stable and decent overclockers. They are a tad picky but hard to find a more stable board. ABIT's are usually very nice on the eye and very decent oc'ers and pretty stable too. I's choose ABIT or ASUS but they are both high on my list. MSI would be 2nd tier along with a host of other companies.

Not to call you ignorant, but ABIT hasn't made a decent motherboard in almost 2 years. The Asus version of the 6150 has a lot of bad bios problems, including no voltage controls, a high vcore by default, which is dangerous to the longevity of a cpu, and not to mention only 8 htt lanes in comparison with the other 6150 boards with 16. The MSI on the other hand was the most feature packed (dvi and vga for onboard video, HD audio, component out, vdimm controls up to 3.1 volts, and almost a perfect complement of overclocking options except for vcore and HTT only up to 250) and of really high quality, it was stable at up to 250x10 all day long. So I'll reiterate what I said before, and I have HANDS-ON experience with all of these boards except the tforce so I know what I'm talking about. Get the tforce if you plan to overclock a cpu with 9 multipliers, get the foxconn if you plan to overclock a cpu with 10 or more multipliers, and the MSI if you don't plan on overclocking much. There is no point in getting the asus unless you're an Asus fan-boy as there are a lot of bios issues that asus needs to work out.
