I think I have a problem with my motherboard maybe the bios. It is a new system that I just put together. I built almost the exact same system two weeks ago with this same model motherboard. Gigabyte 7ns-rz.

When I boot the system up it take about 4 minutes just to get into the bios setup. I left all the default setting except I changed the fsb to 166 for an Athlon 2500 Barton CPU.

When I boot up it sits on detecting hard drive for a very long time. Then it says that it detected my hard drive and DVD drive. Then it sits there for a while then moves to the next screen and says verifying "something" pool and sits then for a long time. Then it will only boot to the CD-ROM. I have changed the settings in the bios to only boot from the hard drive and it will only boot from the CD-Rom drive.

Windows will boot and formatted the hard drive and installed setup files and said it needs to reboot. When it rebooted it took a very long time to go thru all the screens like I said before. Booted from the CD and wanted to start the installation all over again. It did recognize that the hard drive was now formatted. And said that there was all ready windows install on the hard drive.

Is there a problem with the bios or something with the motherboard?
 
sounds like some default bios settings wreaking bootup havoc.
it's better to detect installed drives once from within the bios and then set them permanently rather than leave them on "auto". also, set unused ports/channels to "disabled" or "not installed". if you have a raid controller, and aren't using it, disable it too.
Basically, you should try to disable anything in the bios you aren't using (serial ports, parallel ports etc.), and set those devices that are installed to "user" (or something similar for disk/cs) or "enabled" (NICs, audio). finally, if there is an option to try agp or pci first, make sure its set to agp (or, shudder, pci, according to your video card)

Tried that.

it takes about 3:15 minutes to get to the point where it will boot from the CD-ROM.

over a minute before i can even get into setup.
 
have you tried umplugging all the drives and plugging them in one at a time to see if the bios still is slow... if it stops being weird, may be a bad drive or ide controller... also make sure your ram is inserted correctly..
 
disconnected both drives and it booted faster. plugged the hard drive back in and it took a very long time again like last time. and with only the hard drive in it still will not boot from the hard drive.

last time i booted from the CD and was able to format the hard drive fine and install the first windows file but on reboot it will not boot from hard drive.

is my hard drive bad or is the controller on my motherboard bad.
