Motherboard Frying

I recently decided to build my first computer. I, with help from a friend, installed all the necessary equipment (mobo, vid card, memory, hdd) and tested it at my buddy’s house. It booted up to CMOS fine and we turned it off. I then took it home and installed dvd-rom, cd-rw, an IDE hdd and connected the front USB cables according to the diagram (I believe I hooked them up properly).

I started up my system and never did make it to a visible screen. The board never did POST. The LED on the mobo displayed code FF which means boot attempt. This led me to think, what did I change between then and now? Here lies my question:
If I did hook the USB wires wrong( i.e. ther are four wires: ground, data+,data-,5v) , is that enough to fry the mobo?

I did everything Epox support told me to when trying to troubleshoot the motherboard and I never did get it to a visible screen or CMOS or anything.

Is it possible for a defective mobo to boot to CMOS up and never again due to manufacturer defect? Or must it be something I did to the mobo?

Epox Motherboard 8RDA3+ Socket A nForce Ultra 400

Thanks

defective mobo probably... wireing the usb prot wrong wont do anything unless you plug anything it

Allright, I'm trying to clear my conscience about frying the board. It sucks my first build I get a bad mobo. I never got my operating system loaded, so I never used the USB.

If you plug IDE cables in backward, some motherboards will not post. (nothing to the screen)

Try unplugging your IDE devices and see if you get a post.. if you do, double check that you have the cable plugged in the right way around.

I already RMAd it. I am getting a new board tomorrow.
We'll see if that was it.
Yes, I unplugged the IDE cables completely and tried it from there, still no luck.

The USB definately wouldn't have done it, as they're just wires- nothing on the other end till you plug something in. I think it's failsafe even if your did plug something in, anyway. Not sure.

so it just turned on with all the fans running and hd but it just wont boot into bio or windows an nothing was on the screen? have you tried switch it on by shorting out the power jumper?
