So about a month back my motherboard and power supply both shit the bed. The pictures are less than gratifying.

Well anyways the lovely folks at corsair sent me back a shiny new psu. While the slightly less lovely folks (ok they're bastards) at MSI sent me back the same motherboard but with a shiny new "SERVICED BY MSI" (as if a more proper oxymoron existed) sticker on the back.

The motherboard and the 4 video cards have been sitting idly as i dealt with school and work. School and work are both now taking a vacation and it's time to boot the bastard again.

So here is my problem. The motherboard's power pin despite my best sanding intentions is still oxdized. In order to give it more juice I did this mod on it:

It will be running 4 gts 250's with ONE PCIE 6 PIN cable to each card. My thinking goes no matter what I do the gts 250's will saturate the motherboard power channel again thereby frying it again. One PCIE 6 pin connector provides 75watts of power and the PCIE 2.0 spec provide 75watts of power too. Two molex connectors converted to a six pin PCIE 6 pin power cable provides 72 watts. Am I stuck between a rock and a hard place? Will I probably destroy both the board and the PSU? New video cards in order?
 
I'm not really sure what you are asking here. Which power supply are you trying to power 4x250's with? What color wire is burnt in that picture? I am really surprised to see two wires going to a single pin on the connector.

My question is with the mod I did will this happen again leaving me a busted psu and motherboard? And if I should get new video cards with multiple external power cables?

Corsair 1000HX. I think it was purple? The second less thick wire is for measurement.
 
Nope, it isn't purple. An ATX supply only has 1 purple line and that is intact in your pics. It looks like it is a +12V yellow wire. Quite odd, I'm honestly not sure what to recommend.
 
With that mod, you'll be pulling at most 6.25A from each wire, which is well below their tolerances (that's assuming a 150W power draw per card, which is actually more than you'll be using). The risk of frying any wires is slim to none.

Could there be another reason for the melt down?

I'm on my phone and can't tell, was the pin that melted a 12v line?

I had this exact same thing happen to me a few years ago with a Thermaltake Purepower 560w PSU. It was in my FX55 PC and my PC kept randomly shutting down until the time kept shortening between shut downs (more like just losing power and dying). So I opened up my case and there's my 24-pin connector with one of its pins on the corner all black, charred. and partially melted on the PSU connector. I had a backup PSU though and luckily it worked and my mobo was still good even though the connector is partially burnt, heh. Not sure what caused it, pissed me off though cuz I was in Korea and wasn't going to pay shipping to RMA it at the time.

I think you'll be fine without messing with it. If not, you can just RMA it for a new mobo this time, heh. I would instead of trying to mess with it and possibly voiding the warranty too.
 
i had this same thing happen to my old socket A motherboard.. surprisingly it looked exactly the same but the motherboard worked perfectly fine after redoing the wiring on the psu.. i guess they dont make motherboards like they use to.. psu still works to this day.. only problem is that it has no filter on the lines so i cant use it around any radio's.. eventually the motherboard died 2 years later due to the chipset fan dying..

it could be why it only had a service sticker on it because there was actually nothing wrong with the board except having to replace the 24 pin connector..
