I posted a while back on having these hard drive click/grinding issues and so I got an RMA for the drive to go back, so no worries there. In the mean time, I caught a great deal on a Seagate 120 for $119 with a $60 rebate, so I couldn't really resist.
When I went home to put it into my system, I was able to format the drive using their software, and prepare it for an Operating System. When I started the windows installation, it would stop at random points, except for one time, it was copying files, and took a half hour for it to get to 1% on a copying screen, which is not right whatsoever. So I opened up my brothers computer and set it up as the main hd is his, just to test, and I load up to install windows, and not one problem, it installed windows like a champ.
Now this seems to be like I'm hovering over a motherboard problem. Right now what I'm attempting is, switching the parallel controllers, the HD from channel 0 to 1, and only running my DVD drive as master on channel 0. By doing that I my "half broken (still clicks and freezes)" western digital drive was able to complete a windows installation, however the seagate drive still is struggling. (Again, the seagate worked flawlessly on my brothers). If the seagate drive worked on channel 1, then I was going to conclude that channel 0 cut in and out, but that's just not acceptable for a hard drive, and just increases the time for a cd drive to operate on it. However, that's not the case so I really don't know what to conclude. Any help would be very helpful, thanks.
Tests:
Mine: Channel 0 & 1:

Tests:
Mine: Channel 0 & 1:
- Western Digital finishes a windows installation, when I try to reboot into windows, it gets there but freezes after I hear a clicking
- Seagate will not finish a windows installation
